German Embassy Refuses Ex-Champ, Ike Quartey Visa

The German Embassy has refused former WBA Welter Weight Champion, Ike 'Bazooka' Quartey, a visa into Germany. Ike says he does not understand why he was refused the visa on the grounds that that he was unqualified, although he had fulfilled all the requirements. He maintains he was bound for Germany to arrange for some heavy equipment for a hospital which he financing.

Ike noted that the embassy officials asked for an invitation letter, birth certificate, health certificate and a bank statement, which he provided. They then asked him to return in two weeks for the response to the application but he got there only to learn that he had been refused the visa.

The former World Champion expressed disappointment at the action of the German officials and questioned whether they would treat their heroes back in Germany in the same manner.
