GBA thanks all

Accra, June 12, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has expressed appreciation to all corporate bodies that supported the just ended boxing season, which saw the body successfully organizing the Men Only Boxing Championship and a series of national and international bouts.

A statement signed by Ignatius Elletey, General Secretary of GBA said his outfit was particularly grateful to all, who support them in the implementation of their programs despite attempts by some people with "dubious intentions" to sabotage the Men Only Competition. The statement mentioned the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, the National Sports Council (NSC), Metro TV, Far East Mercantile, Onetouch and CCTC for wonderfully assisting the GBA. The statement said the GBA, despite difficulties, had promoted four national title fights, two West Africa Union title bouts, one Africa Boxing Union, and one World Boxing Association Pan Africa title fights and expanded the Men Only Championship.

He added that the GBA had successfully hosted the World Boxing Association (WBA) Africa Regional President Stan Christodoulou, who has assured the GBA of further assistance in the promotion of the sport in the country.

It said the GBA was in the process of packaging WBA fights and others, such as the Commonwealth, Africa Boxing Union (ABU) World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Association (IBF) fights into a newly sponsored monthly tournament dubbed "Boxing Bonanza."

The statement added that the GBA would maintain the Men Only Championship as a sponsored boxing tournament that would help stabilize new and upcoming boxers, most of whom enter the punch for pay business without managers.
