GABA to secure grant for grass root development

Accra, March 26, GNA - The Ghana Amateur Boxing Authority (GABA) will soon secure a grant of USD 150,000 dollars from the International Amateur Boxing Authority (AIBA) for the development of boxing at the grass roots level.

The initiative follows a successful application tendered by GABA to the international body for the grant, which is expected by July this year. Information reaching the GNA Sports in Accra indicates that GABA, as part of the conditions attached, the country will be required to contribute 15 per cent of the grant when it is approved.

GABA will in addition organize regional championships in all the ten Regions in a bid to raise a team for AIBA regional training camps. It is the first time that GABA has been able to successfully apply for the AIBA grant and the Authority is therefore confident that the grant will help boost the development of boxing in the country. According to the information, the grant will also afford GABA the opportunity to unearth more boxing talents in preparation for the Commonwealth Games and other international assignments.
