GAABA names team for Afahye Championship

Accra, Sept 3, GNA - The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) has named an 8-member boxing team for an impending Afahye Festival contest at Cape Coast, Central Region. The Greater Accra team is scheduled to meet their Central Regional counterparts in a one-day exhibition contest on Thursday, September 4 as part of sporting activities to climax the annual Afahye Festival of the Chiefs and people of the Ogua Traditional Area.

Gideon Quartey, Acting Chairman of GAAAB told GNA Sports on Wednesday that the team of boxers were selected based on their performance at the ongoing Regional Amateur Boxing League. He said the boxers making the trip include George Addy (Will Power Gym) and Duke Micah (Fit Square Gym) - Flyweight division, Emmanuel Quartey (Fit Square Gym) - Bantamweight division, Nii Ofoli Tetteh (Fit Square Gym) - Featherweight division and Michael Ansah (Square Deal Gym) - Lightweight division.

The rest are Benjamin Lamptey (Will Power Gym) - Light welterweight division and the Middleweight duo of King Paul Lawson (Attoh Quarshie Gym) and Giblim Ahmed (Wisdom Gym). Quartey said the team, which would be accompanied by a number of officials would leave Accra on the morning of Thursday, 4 September for the one-day contest. The team would return on Friday, September 5.
