Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders is legal

Press Release to Rebut the Claim of Mohammed Amin Lamptey
(so-called GBA Communications Director) that the Committee for
Professional Boxing Stakeholders (CPBS) is an “Illegal Entity”.

To All Media Houses:
I wish to bring to
the knowledge of the general public that the claim of Mr. Mohammed Amin Lamptey
and any other persons that the Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders
(CPBS) is an “illegal entity” as not true because they lack the knowledge of
the New Sports Regulations -LI 1988 (the law that govern sports in Ghana of
which professional boxing is no exception).
The Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders (CPBS) is
legitimate as it derives it legal standing from the New Sports Regulations - LI
1988.
Section one (1) of the Regulations (LI 1988) prescribes that
a person may form or join a sports association either as an amateur or
professional. Also the section Four (4) clearly spells out that; a sports
association registered with the National Sports Authority shall have members
that consist of persons who are interested in the sport - that is, the stakeholders.
The Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders (CPBS) is
an ad-hoc committee made up of professional boxing stakeholder groups
(which includes Professional Boxing Trainers, Managers & Promoters, Ring
Officials, Old Boxers and Matchmakers & Agents) who are chartering the
course of getting a legal professional boxing body in place in order to govern
professional boxing in Ghana through enactment of a constitution at a congress
as prescribed by the New Sports Regulations (LI -1988). It is not an alternate
Ghana Boxing Authority. This is to rebut the various claims by the so-called
Ghana Boxing Authority's Communications Director, Mohammed Amin Lamptey's claim
that the CPBS is an “illegal entity.”
This is high time Mr. Mohammed Amin Lamptey should make a
background check from the New Sports Regulations (LI-1988) and stop infecting
the general public with lies as it is clear that he is ignorant of the laws
that govern sports in Ghana, of which professional boxing is no exception.
Mr. Amin Lamptey has made numerous claims that the GBA is
autonomous and not a subordinate of the National Sports Authority - just a ploy
to escape the congress agenda until the CPBS petitioned the Honourable Sports
Minister. The Sports Ministry thereby set the record straight by ordering that
the congress must be organized as soon as possible and now that the old ploy
has been made useless, he (Amin Lamptey) is now infecting the general public
with lies that the CPBS is an “illegal entity” due to his ignorance.
I wish to bring to the ignorant Amin Lamptey's notice that
if any organization or body should be labelled an illegal entity, then it
should be the current Ghana Boxing Authority and the board under the
chairmanship of his boss - Mr. Samir Captan. This is due to the following
reasons ;
1. I wish to
ask where do the current GBA derives its legality from to be recognized as a
legal entity since the statute (section 10 of the Old Sports Regulations - LI
1088) that established the GBA has been revoked, and

2. Even the appointment period (under the Old
Sports Regulations -LI 1088) that mandated the current GBA board under the
leadership of Mr. Samir Captan expired as far back as July 28, 2011.
In the light of the above and in accordance with the New
Sports Regulations - LI 1988, the Committee for Professional Boxing Stakeholders
(CPBS) is legal and have the capacity and mandate to charter the course of the
congress agenda for professional boxing in Ghana and therefore need no approval
or directives from any usurping body.
The CPBS is still working tirelessly in order to get a
legitimate Professional Boxing Board in place to govern professional boxing in
Ghana and within a few weeks will come out with the modalities and date of
congress in order to open nominations for able Ghanaians who can serve as
administrators of professional boxing in Ghana.
Thank you very much.

Signed
Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye
