Coach Asare hails Ray Quarcoo’s Africa elevation

Ofori Asare, head coach of Ghana’s amateur boxing team has hailed the elevation of President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF), Ambassador Ray Quarcoo to serve as a member of the Executive Committee of African Boxing Confederation.

But the Black Bombers coach is swiftly urging Ambassador Quarcoo to remain in the post which will ensures that he is among high profile officials whose decisions influence the day-to-day running of boxing on the continent.

Coach Asare is adamant that previous Ghana amateur boxing chiefs gave up their continental positions once their tenure in charge of the local federation expired much to the detriment of this country and the sport’s development.

“I congratulate him for getting appointed to the African Confederation but I will be happier if he doesn’t relinquish the position when he leaves office as GABF President. He has to remain part of the Confederation, it’s good for Ghana,” Coach Asre told us.

He explained: “This has been a problem in the past. Col. Sharpe and Eddie Duplan all had the opportunity to join the continental federation but they relinquished the position when they left office as Chairman of Ghana. If we had these officials in international confederations continuously, we could have been benefiting a lot through them by now.”

Coach Asare continued: “It will be quite important for Ghana if our representatives work longer there. When you go outside, these people who run all these organizations, they are the same as us. So I’m urging Ray Quarcoo to continue to retain his position even if he leaves GABF. I will be happy if he may grow further and maintain the position as long as possible.”
