Bawowe retains AGGW Welterweight title

Accra, May 22, GNA - Reformers' Emmanuel Bawowe silenced his critics by defeating Eric Ameshikor of the Attoh Quarshie Gym to retain his African Golden Gloves Warrior Welterweight title on Friday at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonments, Accra.

Bawowe was overwhelmingly declared the winner with a 3-0 result on his first defence of the title he annexed a few weeks ago. The Reformers Gym lad had the upper hand, as he showed great improvement upon previous bouts and deservingly scored the highest points on the score cards of the judges.

Bawowe received a cash prize of 50 Ghana cedis whilst Ameshikor went home with 30 Ghana Cedis. The Heavyweight championship bout between David Okine and Ebenezer Tetteh, both of Sonia Gym was however, declared a no contest, after the organizers suspected 91foul play' from the two boxers. Okine, the holder of the title floored his challenger Tetteh three times in the second round as the bout for the bout to be stopped. In other bouts, Sani Yidana of Wisdom Gym defeated Promise Sogbe of Fit Square Gym whilst Tahiru Atobila of Dade Gym outclassed Issaka Akaya of Fit Square both in the Welterweight division. Sadick Bashar of Wisdom Gym also beat William Nakasem of Reformers Gym in the Middleweight contest just as his counterpart Musah Rahman Lawson also replicating a similar feat over William Ofosuhene of Zoom Zoom Gym in their Lightweight contest. The championship was promoted by Dade Boxing Promotion Syndicate.
