Bahmed donates boxing equipment to Sports Council

Accra, May 8, GNA - Bahmed Travel and Tours on Tuesday presented boxing equipment to the National Sports Council (NSC).

The donation worth 50 million cedis which includes gloves, headgears, towels, cap protection and instructor pads is to enhance the prepartions of the National Amateur Boxing Team, the Black Bombers towards the All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria.

Alhaji Ahmed Bandoh, Chief Executive Officer of Bahmed Travel and Tours said he was moved by the neglect of the sport in recent times to make the donation to ease the difficulties faced by the local boxers. According to Alhaji Bandoh, football and athletics have received much attention to the neglect of boxing especially at the local level, hence his decision to support the development of the sport.

He added that the nation has also been deprived of world champions over the past years and there is the need to marshall the needed resources to produce up and coming young boxers to salvage the image of the sport.

Alhaji Bandoh expressed the hope that the equipment will help unearth new talents and potential world champions to have the necessary training.

Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the NSC assured the donors that the equipment will be properly utilised to meet the required targets. The Chief Executive said Ghana abounds in a lot of sporting talents but unfortunately lack the neccessary equipment for their development and added that the donation has therefore come at the opportune time as the nation prepares towards the All Africa Games. 08 May 07
