Amateur Boxing Authority opens registration for League

Accra, April 21, GNA - The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing

Association (GAABA) has announced the commencement of

registration of boxers for the 4th Amateur Boxing League slated for

July. Gideon Quartey, acting Chairman of the Regional Amateur

boxing controlling body told GNA Sports in Accra on Tuesday that

the exercise will begin on April 27 and last till the final stages of the

commencement of the League. He explained that each participating gym will be expected to pay

two Ghana Cedis for each boxer to be registered and to be

accompanied by two passport size photographs. Mr Quartey added that about 30 gyms including Reformers of

the Ghana Prison Services and Bridge Boxing Club, owned by

renowned boxing administrator Ray Quarcoo are expected to

participate in the league. The acting Chairman said that new gyms within the regional

capital who are interested in participating in the exercise must

contact his outfit for registration formalities. Mr Quartey urged all gym officials to contact the GAABA

Secretary, Theophilus Amankwaah on 0277005992 or 021-760892

for all issues related to the registration exercise. This year's exercise will be the fourth edition of the Amateur

Boxing League initiated by the regional body geared towards the

development and promotion of the sport. Since its inception in 2006, the League has served as a platform

for the selection of boxers into the national amateur boxing team, the

Black Bombers.
