Agbeko- to fight in Mississippi

Mr Adama Addy, the trainer of the current IBF (International Boxing Federation) title holder, Joseph Agboko from Ghana , predicts that there will be a classic knock-out for his fighter when he defends his title on October 11, 2008 in Mississippi , at the Block City . "The challenger, William Gonzales, will not last 12 rounds and if he does, there better be a first class hospital very nearby. Agboko has trained hard and is fit as a fiddle.

He is in a perfect condition and ready to take the flag of Ghana to the mountain top. Agboko will exhibit the stuff of his trade and will out- box the opponent. He will teach Gonzales a boxing lesson." Mr. Addy noted.

This match has been postponed earlier because of Agboko’s injury during training. The Ghanaian fighter has a medical clearance and is ready to go. In an exclusive interview with this freelance journalist at the popular African Restaurant -Sankofa – in the Bronx ( Webster Avenue) Mr Addy noted that his ward has a record of 26 fights with 23 knock- outs, 3 draws and only one defeat. Agboko is hungry to defend his title and be undefeated as a champion before moving up in weight division.

"We have watched several tapes of Gonzales and even went out to see his last fight. I have mapped out a strategy to let him laugh from the wrong side of his mouth when he kisses the canvas. He cannot match my wards speed and power punching ."

The title holder, Joseph Agoboko, urged Ghanaians who live in the Mississippi area to come out in their numbers with the flag of Ghana . “Come and sing, drum, dance and cheer me to victory for our motherland. I am far from Accra so I need you. I also ask you all to pray for me because without God, I have nothing to fight. He is the real power.”

Baba Abdulla aka BABS, the Managening Director of Sankofa advised the boxer that, he should take his training very seriously because "the career that you have chosen is a noble one and for one to get to the top of the ladder one has to be God- fearing, be respectful, comport your self before, during and after all fights, In the ring, there will be no one with you but Allah so bow down to him before you step in there."

Kwabena Manu (Pancho) added that “Ghanaians in the US should think about forming a Ghana Sports Club that will have resources available to support boxers, footballers and athletes who come here to further their careers in competitions. When they win, they make us all proud so when they need us, we should be there for them.
