Agbeko’s world title fight Sept 7

LIFE Time Promotions Syndicate yesterday announced that the World Boxing Federation bantamweight championship fight between Ghana’s Joseph Agbeko and Lewis Mwambo of Zambia at the Kaneshie Sports Complex on September 7 is a done deal.

The 12-round bout tops an explosive eight-bout programme which is also the maiden show of Life Time Promotions.

Agbeko, the King Kong of Ghana boxing, is also the African champion, while Mwambo, a former amateur sensation, is the Zambian champion.

Sanctioned by the Ghana Boxing Authority, the fight is expected to attract a large number of international boxing luminaries including the WBF President Ron Scalf of Tennesse, USA temporary and former Chairman of the Commonwealth Boxing Council, Mr Nii Quaye Mensah, who is also Chairman of the GBA.

According to the sanctioning bodies, there will e three scoring officials, a referee and two judges. The fight suprvisor is from South Africa.

On the undercards, Agoe Ashong of Ghana will take on Julius Obiri of Nigeria for the West Africa welterweight title while Abdul Malik Jabir engages Eric Leo Moza of Cameroun in an eight-round super bantamweight contest.

Welterweight Joshua Clottey takes on Nigeria’s Mbeki Mbongo over 10 rounds and Laatekwei Hammond fights Nigeria’s Ike Obi over eight rounds.

The rest are middleweight James Toney versus Basil Osigwe over eight rounds, Charles Adamu versus Bob Abiro in a 10-round middleweight and Ben Odametey will defend the national featherweight title against Moibi Mohammed.
