"Afashe" boxing tournament at Cape Coast

Boxers in Cape Coast will meet their counterparts from the Greater Accra Region in a special 'Afahye' boxing tournament at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 7.

Mr Twintoh Walker, chairman of the Central Regional Boxing Promotion Committee said the tournament would form part of activities marking the Fetu Afahye' of the chiefs and people of Oguaa Traditional Area.

He said top of the bill would be a super featherweight challenge contest between 'sensational' Ali Alabi of Cape Coast and Greater Accra's, Aminu Turkson.

In the amateur category, Nana Benya Bee (Cape Coast) will vie with Bastic Samir of Accra in the featherweight division, while Frank Zoya (Cape Coast) and Kofi Atanga of Accra, will trade punches in the lightweight division.

A national juvenile championship title bout will be staged between champion Jessy Lartey and Mark Abbey, while Frederick Lawson and Mark Abbey, both of Accra will meet as a side-attraction to the package.

The tournament is being sponsored by a number of organisations including Saana Lodge, Savoy Hotel, Rural Friends, Sammo Guest House, Super Wonders Standard Mineral Waters and Araba Koranchie Enterprise all based in Cape Coast.
