Adamu vows to beat Groves on April 3

Ghana’s Commonwealth Super Middleweight champion Charles Adamu has promised to beat British hope George Groves when the two meet on April 3 in Manchester. The 32 year old Ghanaian has been training fervently and says he is in high spirits for the clash against the 21 year old Groves in what will be the first defence of the title he won only last December in London.

“Training is going well and everything is alright and I am concentrated on the fight. I’ve watched a few of his videos and I must say he is a good boxer but I am working very hard and I believe I will stop him,” Adamu said when this writer caught up with him at the Attoh Quarshie Gym in Accra where trains. Londoner Groves has won all of his 8 professional fights with 6 KOs and has started talking big ahead of the fight against Adamu which will be on the undercard of David Haye’s WBA heavyweight title defence against John Ruiz at the Manchester MEN Arena.

"This is fantastic for me, it's the stuff I dream about. I'm so excited about this opportunity and I plan to take it with both hands. I'm going to smash Adamu all round the ring. I plan to stop him and do something that's never been done before," Groves has said.

But Adamu who has his eyes set on revenge against WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch, says nothing will stop him from defeating the 21 year old Groves on April 3. That is why the Ghanaian has brushed aside accusations that he was unimpressive when winning the title against another Briton Carl Dilks on December 18.

“Everybody and his style so you can’t say you will impress somebody. I don’t need to impress somebody, I need to win,” he said.

Its one fight at a time for me. I want to challenge Carl Froch because I want to revenge my loss in 2004 to him. That’s why I have to win this fight and I promise Ghanaians to keep on praying for me and I will do it,” stated Adamu who flies out of the country by the end of next week to the UK for the fight.
