Abuja 2003: Sierra Leonian boxer loses to debt

Abuja, Oct 9, - GNA - The indebtedness of the Sierra Leon Boxing Association to the Confederation of African Boxing Federations knocked out flyweight boxer, Kargbo Alie from the competition at the All Africa Games in Abuja on Tuesday.

There was drama when the officials refused to allow the Seirra Leonian boxer to fight against Celestin Augustine, an opponent from Madagascar because his federation had failed to pay the 250 dollar affiliation fee. The decision of the jury sent shivers down the spines of South African officials and compelled them to settle their own bill before it got to the turn of their boxers to fight.

Sierra Leonian officials who accompanied the boxer to the Nicon Hilton Hotel venue of the boxing event declined to comment on the issue. The Confederation of African Boxing Federations has been concerned about the default by many countries in the settlement of their affiliation fees.
