28 Boxers To Prepare For C?wealth Games

The Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has invited 28 boxers for camping at the C.K. Gyamfi Sports College at Winneba for preparation towards the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, next March.

The number of boxers who are to report by Tuesday, January 3, will be reduced to 22 after the initial training, while 11 from the number will eventually represent Ghana at the international bilateral amateur boxing competition against Benin in Accra on Friday, January 13.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the GABA, R.O. Lamptey, named some of the boxers as Manyo Plange, Emmanuel Addo, Michael Barnor, Samuel Kotey Neequaye, Abib Ahmed, Mohammed Ayi Bruce, Gideon Agboso, Okoe Laryea and Bastie Samir.

Others are Obodai Sai, Patrick Allotey, Ahmed Saraku, Gibrim Ahmed, Atoli Moore, Mathew Nandole, Osumanu Haruna and Nii Armah Aryeetey.

The rest who were selected after regional championships are Dotse Anama (Volta), Steven Mensah (Eastern), Azuma Mohammed, Sanni Lidana and Filo Mba (Ashanti), Kojo Yeboah (Brong Ahafo), Fuseini Sadik (Northern) Ibrahim Apiri (Ashanti), Kwesi Balley (Upper East), as well as Awusone Yekini and Atintola Nanpale.

Meanwhile, GABA has appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support the association in its preparations towards the Commonwealth Games and the 2007 All Africa Games.
