KWADJO, THANKS A LOT ! UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS THE DUTY OF THE GHANA GOVERNMENT TO FORESEE THE HARMFUL EFFECT OF WHAT THIS 'GALAMSEY' WILL HAVE AND HAS ON THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY, RELATIVE TO THE POLLUTION THAT IT CAUSES TO OUR SOURCES OF DRINKING WATERS FROM VARIOUS RIVERS IN THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE. MORE SO THE NEGATIVE AND HARMFUL ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT THAT 'GALAMSEY' CREATES AND LEAVES BEHIND, FOR YEARS, IF NOT CENTURIES. DO WE HAVE TO SIT ALOOF FOR A FOREIGN COUNTRY OR FOREIGN CONSULTANTS TO COME AND EDUCATE US ON THIS BLATANT HEALTH PROBLEM BEFORE WE WAKE UP TO IT OR WHAT ? GHANAIANS, WHAT ARE WE DOING ? ARE WE SACRIFICING OUR LIVES FOR 'GALAMSEY.' 'A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE.'

Have we asked the thousands that such an industry feed are they our own people . was this a menace some few years ago? typical of us we always tackle issues from the destructive end . countries have developed by using what they have to get what they want , have we been able to fight against our leaders corrupt lifestyle , we are so clueless as to what is really taking us backwards , when will these musicians embark on a campaign to change our way of thinking - in this age we still think our own people are the reason for our failures , this believe is outdoored everywhere , thus every Ghanaian sees fellow Ghanaian as an instrument of failure.when can we start a campaign agaisnt the filth .will the pharmaceutical companies go on a massive campaign to stop maleria in Ghana , will the media wear red to stop the filth , will they wear red against corrupt officials. we sit in country where we can go for loans of 1 million USD and an official can spend that money on anything and we dont go on campaign against them . does anybody know even how much small scale miners bring to us. do we stop democracy because of incompetent leaders,do we stop music because of all the stupid music people put out there for our children to listen to, do we stop the media because they reported wrong one wrong news goes a long way in affecting thousands. lets tackle issues differently good day

Nonsense! Your comment implies Galamsey is the only job that could be available to the villagers, and so, taking it away would encourage them to flood the Streets of the Cities to rob people. That is absolutely absurd and insulting to the rural folks you call villagers.
Now, if you know anything about life, you would not even think productive life ends for those folks with the banning of Galamsey. What do you think people in the rural areas were living on before Galamsey began?
Besides, if there is anything most likely to send the rural folks packing to flock to the Cities, it is the ultimate effect of Galamsey.
The practice is killing our land and Forests, polluting our waters both with dirt and toxic chemicals used to extract the gold. So, eventually, after all the easily reachable gold has been exhausted, the Land would be too barren and toxic to support any healthy life. People would have lost the streams and rivers that have been supporting our lives since immemorial. Right now, some of the Streams, like the Ode River in the Ashanti Region is almost dead. That River takes its source from the Opro Headwaters Forest Reserve at Abofour, Ashanti, and had been the main source of drinking water for the People of the area, spanning from Abofour to Offinso Northwest area. But as far back as in 2013, I was, personally, a witness to a shocking scenario where the River had completely dried up, exposing its bed and not a drop of water could be seen in it at the location where it separates the Old Abofour Township from Abofour Junction. That River had never before dried up in any Season.
The most immediate result of the demise of the River is that People in Abofour had been compelled to resort to buying sachet water to drink. These poor rural folks have been robbed of their free natural, main source of drinking water, and were now forced to buy water to drink.
Associated with that shocking observation is the fact that the once rich Tropical High Forest that existed in the Opro Forest Reserve had been wantonly depleted of any Economic tree, and had begun showing intrusion of grass. The farmers who were allowed to farm in the adjacent Plantations had all been forced out, causing shortage of food as well.
In fact, I was extremely vexed to find also that the Teak Plantation in both the Opro Reserve and its neighboring Afram Headwaters Reserve, that I, personally, helped establish, had been massively clear-felled, with no sign of young saplings replacing the harvested crop. All the above helps explain why Ghana, for the very first time in our History, has begun importing Wood from abroad. Not only have we accelerated the collapse of the Timber industry with loss of jobs in the field, but also caused the onset of high prices of quality Wood in Ghana. That Wood importation alone sums up the indictment against our leaders and all involved in the destruction of our Forests through illegal Timber operations and Galamsey.
So, now, how do you justify your implied opposition to stopping the Galamsey?
Cutting corners to immediate financial relief isn't the smartest way to solve perpetual poverty. We have to learn to be smarter.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Kojo Antwi only wants a hype. He is only doing this for his personal interest or perhaps because of his political appointment.
