AAG: Anim settles for bronze in 100 metres

Algiers, July 19, GNA- African Championship Champion and favourite in the women's 100 metres event at the 9th All Africa games in Algiers, Vida Anim struggled to get to the podium when the final of the race took place at the 5th July Stadium in Algiers. The Ghanaian finished third with a time of 11.33 seconds to win bronze, conceding the gold and silver to Nigerian, Damola Osayemi and South African, Constance Mkenku who finished in first and second positions respectively.

Osayemi returned a time of 11.20 seconds, while Mkenku clocked 11.27 seconds.

The race was a keenly contested one from the start until about 30 metres to the end when Osayemi went in front to become a definite winner. South African Nkenku, who is a bundle of muscle and masculine physique edged out Anim close to the finishing line.

Anim had to apply more fire to get to the tape ahead of another Nigerian Francisca Idiko, who had run one of the fastest times in the heat.
