Dear Heavenly Father,
I admit that I have done things that are against your will for me. Please forgive me for my sins. I believe in my heart that Jesus died and rose again to take away my sin. And I declare Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit. Thank you for saving me and thank you for hearing my prayer.. . .. In Jesus' name. . . . . ... . ... Amen.

Practically, it's a bad move but considering the HORRIBLE accent of most Nigerians, it's understandable.

There's absolutely teaching someone his mother's tongue at school when that can be learned at home, parents should be blamed if their children are unable to speak their dialect

Brown, you are missing the point. The children are not taught the mother tongue in the school. Instead, the mother tongue was used by teachers in their teaching of the children. We even practice the same in Ghana here.

Ahhhh! Africa my motherland.
How could the introduction of a programme designed for teaching children in their early years of education run for just three years and affect the results of examinations that only pupils above their sixth to ninth year of education take? That is a very long shot!
Like the situation that pertains in Ghana, this programme was not well thought through with major stakeholders and implementers before it was introduced. No preparations by way of appropriate teaching materials and other resources were made. Somebody woke up one day from the wrong side of his bug-infected bed and decided he had dreamt of a fantastic idea to improve the education of the youth, and went ahead to announce the implementation because he was the only scholar in the whole land.
All over Africa, one would lay the blame of our poor advancement in areas such as education and culture squarely at the feet of the professors and over-rated faculty members of our educational institutions, who have failed to take up the challenge to lead us to the right destinies. Several little sub-communities, with their own diverse cultures and tongues, come together to form every major community present in Africa. Every African country is itself made up of the amalgamation of several of these major communities. A policy to direct the use of over 500 distinct tongues for instruction in Nigeria’s schools, without proper planning and implementation, was bound for failure. And Ghana’s identical approach to similar policy may lead to a similar road block in no time if it does not receive a re-think in the shortest possible time.
This is where the failures attributed to the educational institutions referred to above come in! Our professors and faculties must research into our situations and come out with proper guidelines that would help identify which of the multiple tongues of the various communities hold the best prospects for entire communities if adapted for use by all.
And then again meaningful policies on the matter can be introduced and implemented only when we have suitable resources, such as books and teaching materials, to sustain the implementation. Only the professors and faculties in our institutions have any chance of leading us to any meaningful resolutions of the issues we face.
Ghana’s Haruna Iddrisu must wake up to the challenges that his Nigerian counterparts have come across and steer Ghana away from similar pitfall.

These days, most people speak English to their children at home. I'm come across some children who don't understand or can speak Twi or Ga!!! Our languages are slowly dying with the future generations.

Mother tongue when your teachers can't even describe many scientific terms in local languages? Patriotism should be lauded and encouraged, by misguided programs should not be condoned since they will only serve to make learning more complicated for children. It makes no sense to advocate the teaching of children in native languages without having any books written in those languages for use by teachers. The better thing to do will be to take measures to stop the looting and plundering of the country so that there will be enough resources to fund better school buildings, text books and other school supplies, and better pay for teachers. Obviously, the political leaders can't claim to care about the futures of these children as the the thieving politicians and their crooked cronies continue to loot and plunder the country.
Say this prayer if you have decided to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
