Bara Yara, Aggrey Fynn, including Mfum were great football players. I did not hear any British football team offered to sign a deal with any of these players. Osei Kofi was offered 25,000 British pounds to play football in Britain. Who can match that? Because of free fufuo at atwemonomu, Osei Kofi turned down the British offer. As far as I am concerned, I am even surprised not to hear the name of Mohammed Polo among the greatest players. Mind you I am a staunt Kotoko supporter.

Kotoko had money and that was why they were able to bring him from Hearts of Oak, he is not the first player Kotoko has signed from other clubs, they also signed Robert Mensah from Dwarfs.
I saw every thing myself and the fans will attest to the fact that Osei Kofi and Robert Mensah are the best players Ghana has ever produced.
Mfum does not come in the picture, he only had powerful shots(net breaker), no dribbling ability.
Mohammed Polo and Abedi Pele had everything, they were very great.
I will rate Polo better than Tony Yeboa because Polo had colour, he would make a good
defender look stupid but Toney Yeboah had only power and little dribbling ability, Polo was the dribbling magician.

Mfum will do Ghana's football no good by generating this unnecessary debate. The days of the old Black Stars are gone. They made Ghana proud in those days. Mfum, Osei Kofi, Edward Acquah, Aggrey-Fynn, Adarkwa etc. all played their individual, as well as collective roles in putting Ghana on the soccer world map. The focus should now be on the Black Stars of today. Mfum and the rest of the old Stars should think of how to use their immense experience to help the stars of today rather than this uncalled-for comparisons which, to a large extent, is 'much ado about nothing'.

I was there to see these greats play, but one of my Dad's friends who played for Susubiribi in those days tells me there has never been a player like Osei Kofi. He told me it was difficult not believe Osei Kofi played with some voodoo. He said when you played against him, it was as though he calls the ball to himself. You could hardly dispossess him without fouling him. Then I met a man in Guinea who used play on the right wing of the Guinea national team; when he knew I was from Ghana his first question was do know Osei Kofi? When I said I did not know him personally but heared he was a good footballer, he said it was not enough to describe him as good. He was silent for a moment and shook his head before starting to speak again saying, Osei Kofi was a wizzard, a magician, a talent, a genius on the field and probably had some vooodoo to back him. He said when he had the ball, it was as though it was glued to his leg. He said he had incredible speed and it was almost impossible to dispossess him though he is dimunitive in size. he said till date he has not seen a player like Osei Kofi and that what Abedi did was child's play compared to what Osei Kofi could do with a ball. Well I am not on anybody's side but this is what I have heared about Osei Kofi.

Osei Kofi in his day was offered £30,000 by Stoke City to play for them when Kotoko toured the U.K. He is the only African player on record to have scored against the great Gordon Banks of UK with a cheeky back heel.He turned down the offer to play for Stoke City because he said "He loved his country and he loved Kotoko" In Tanzania Osei Kofi is a household name because of his exploits when Koyoko played Simba Club of Tanzania in those days. He is the only player to have been described by a commentator as having passed the ball to himself because of the ease with which he went through defenders with the ball glued to his feet, Ghana has definitely produced some really great footballers and Osei Kofi belongs there with them.

Osei watch a match changer and a match winner. James Adjei and Yarah were dribllers alright, but Osei was from a different planet. The wizard dribbler was the reason Ghana won two AFCON tournaments in a roll. Every footballer who played against him feared him. He went to England with Kotoko and earned the accolade "George Best" The British were astounded about his enormous skills. He was the first Ghanaian to be offered to play professional football in England by Stoke City who were then one of the strongest teams in England. Osei made Mfum and Edward Acquah what they were. He assisted greatly in creating chances for them to score. Ghana has produced great players including Mfum himself, but Osei Kofi stands tall above them all. There is nobody now or before who helped the Black Stars more than Osei Kofi.

Those were the days that Ghana stood tall in football (soccer). Unfortunately racism deprived them of serious international fame. As far as I'm concern all these players, a lot, including those from other teams like B.A. United, Wise, Hassacas, and Dwarfs made Ghana proud when they featured in the Black Star. As a matter of fact their individual talents make this debate uncalled for, and a distraction. Let us love them all.

I don't quite agree with Mfum. Osei Kofi can pass as one of the greatest footballers Ghana has produced even though he may not be the greatest. Mfum himself is one of them. I still remember the part played by both of them when Ghana defended in Tunisia in 1965 the championship trophy won by the Black Stars in 1963 in Ghana. It was also not for nothing that Osei Kofi was voted the best player for one of the years in the 70s and was given a 20" black and white TV as his prize. I still remember the goal Osei Kofi scored against Gordon Banks, the then supposed best goalkeeper in the world, when Kotoko played against Stoke City at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. Osei Kofi was really great, just like Mfum and many others, we can't take anything away from them.

I was not there to see these greats play, but one of my Dad's friends who played for Susubiribi in those days tells me there has never been a player like Osei Kofi.

There could be more. Opoku Mensah and Brenya also come to mind. I saw a lot of them play. Osei Kofi was at his best in those days. When he had the ball, he had to be rough tackled to get it from him. Mfum was really the bull dozer. No wonder his hard kick once broke the net. Aggrey Fynn, Baba Yara, Mama Aquah, Polo and others were all superb. Since those days there have been good replacements. I think we should infuse more money into the sport to bring out the best of the pool out there.

James Agyei - Interesting. We must know more about him. We know of Baba Yara, C.K.Gyamfi, Wilberforce Mfum, Osei Kofi, Addo Odametey, Doddo Ankrah etc but JAMES AGYEI?
1. Mfum knows what he is talking about. 2. James Agyei? Who dat? 3. Can someone please enlighten us?
Go to GFA, everything must be there(No one like Osei Kofi and Robert Mensah)They brought Pele to Ghana, they attracted many Big teams to Ghana including stoke city and Santos of Brazil_ no one like them.
My dad used to tell me that James Agyei and Asebi Boakye, as well as Yara, were the best players he had ever seen. He was very high on these three, but never slammed Osei Kofi. Mfum has a point, but Osei Kofi was there with ...

Rev Osei Kofi is a self-seeker. Has he not been asking for a huge cash settlement for their careers in the 60s. The great ones seldom speak.
Go to GFA and collect facts about Mfum and Osei Kofi and U can judge right who is telling the truth. Most of the goals Mfum scored were cooked by Osei Kofi.
