No basis for comparison the terrains were different, definitely the likes of Yeboah,Abedi,Ali Ibrahim etc stand tall above current players not even Stephen Appiah can compare himself to them.

J.J. OKOCHA HAS EXPRESSED HIS OPINION, BUT DID NOT START ANY WAR. EVERBODY HAS HIS OR HER OPINION WHEN IT COMES TO GHANA'S ALL TIME BEST FOOTBALLER. BUT OKOCHA, A NON-GHANAIAN AND BASED ON HIS PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF GHANA SOCCER AND HAVING PLAYED ALONGSIDE GHANAIAN PLAYERS GAVE VERY GOOD REASONS WHY HE CONSIDERS TONY YEBOAH AS HIS PICK.
THE ARGUMENT THAT HE DID NOT SEE THIS OR THAT PLAYER IS IMMATERIAL HERE.
FROM NOW ON, LET US APPRECIATE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FACT. THOSE OF OUR PLAYERS WHO EXCELLED DURING THEIR PLAYING DAYS HAD A PECULIAR QUALITY WHICH OUR CURRENT TEAMS DON'T HAVE. TONY YEBOAH, DAN OWUSU, ANAS SEIDU, KWASI OWUSU, MAMA ACQUAH, JOHN HAMMOND, WILLIE KLUTSE, GEORGE ALHASSAN, DAN KAYEDE AND A FEW OTHERS WERE BLESSED WITH A PERFECT PHYSICAL STRUCTURE THAT ENHANCED THEIR SKILLS. THEY WERE ALL ROUND SIX FEET AND ABOUT 180 KILOS IN WEIGHT ON THE AVERAGE. YET THEY WERE QUICK ON THE BALL, AGILE AND GOOD AT SCORING GOALS. THANK GOD WE HAD OSEI KOFI, POLO, RAZAK, SUNDAY, ADOLPH ARMAH, OPOKU AFRIYIE, BANNERMAN, YAWSON, ASASE, KOFI BADU, HARUNA YUSIF AND A FEW MORE WHO DID NOT HAVE THAT STOUT FRAME OF A MAN, BUT WERE EQUALLY OR EXCEPTIONALLY SKILFUL AND DEXTEROUS.
THE TWO SCENARIOS BLENDED INTO A MASTERPIECE OF A TEAM. I THINK GFA MUST FIND A WAY TO CREATE STRIKERS OUT OF OUR YOUNG PLAYERS SO WE CAN HAVE A FEW MORE OF SUCH FEARFUL STRIKERS.
I REMEMBER THE EARLY DAYS OF KWASI OWUSU AND KEPT WONDERING HOW HE MATURED TO CAPTAIN THE NATIONAL TEAM. IN FACT I SAW HIM PRACTISING HOW TO SCORE WITH IS HEAD, AND HE WAS MARVELOUS. DAN OWUSU WAS ANOTHER, BECAUSE HERE WAS A GUY WHO WOULD SCORE A GOAL IN ALMOST EVERY MATCH THAT HE PLAYED. SO HERE IS OUR HANDICAP, OUR CURRENT STARS ARE GOOD AND DOING WELL, BUT LET US LOOK AT OUR STRIKING DEPARTMENT AND IMPROVE ON IT AND NOT TO RELY ON ONE PLAYER, ASAMOAH DJAN FOR ALMOST A DECADE, HOW CAN THAT BE?

Abedi Pele created unnecessary problems for the Black Stars. When he was a pre-teen he owned the football and dictated who should play, who should not play and what happens on the field of play. As an adult, although he had great qualities he still wanted to be the de facto leader on and off the field of play and that poor attitude affected team spirit at the national level. Abedi would demand to be made captain or he wasn't going to play. This happened in 1992 before the start of the finals of the African Cup of Nations in Senegal. Kwesi Appiah had successfully captained the team through the qualifying series and when Abedi and others were invited to augment the team for the finals Abedi demanded to be made captain before he would play for his Nation. This almost tore the team apart. Abedi Pele was a great player whenever he played for his club but he almost single-handedly dismembered the Black Stars of his time. Great individual player at club level but a disaster at the national.

Anyone who plays/ watches football objectively knows that Tony Yeboah is not an all time best( not even one of the best). Here are the facts: 1 . When he was playing for. Cornerston in the 80's Ghana did not have great players around. The likes of Abedi Pele and Opoku Nti were abroad. Yes he was able to help Cornerston ' almost' win the league then. He also tried with Okwawu United. In 1988, he could not help Ghana Qualify for the Soul Olympic when we fell to Zambia 2-1 aggregate in Accra.Abedi did not play in that match. I remember very well because I was at the stadium when Coach Addey came up with that ' head - scratching ' selection. Am very sure Abadi Pele would have made a big difference if he had played. 2. When he went to Germany in the late 80's we did not hear about him until after Italia 90 . Why? . It was because most of the best players in Europe moved to Italy after the 1990 World Cup . Therefore ' in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is the king', if he was that great how come he could not help Ghana win Senegal 92 after Abedi had to sit out that final due to 2 yellow cards? Tony Yeboah, just like Osei Kuffuor were what I will call lucky footballers. They were average players who shone when there were hadly any one around to compete with them( but that is for another discussion).Tony Yeboah has contributed in no small measure to the failure of Ghana to win any tournament since 1982. When he went to England, he scored those goals because English players at that time were playing 'kick and run' soccer. In my opinion, there are many players who were far better than Tony in their hay days .
