Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says he is desperate to win a major trophy for the nation before he retires from international football.

Gyan, who has been battling for fitness in recent times, has urged his team mates to give off their best in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is slated for January 14 to 5th February 2017 in Gabon.

“As a captain I want to win a trophy for my nation before retiring from the national team, I need to have something to boast of or to feel proud off,” he said.

“I think the quality of players we have talking about the Black Stars, we are capable of winning the cup, and everything will depend on us. We have to think about qualifying from the group stage, then we aim for the trophy.

Ghana is drawn in group D with Mali, Egypt and Uganda respectively.

The Black Stars last won the ACON in 1982 when they beat Libya in the final.
