The appearance fees for players is only paid at the World Cup and it is not paid from the coffers of the country. FIFA plays this money. The other sporting disciplines hate the footballers because of this but truth be told athletics and the rest NEVER generate revenue. All the same govt spends on athletes. But these footballers go to the World Cup and they bring in millions of dollars. I dont see anything wrong if they are given part of it as appearance fees. Go and ask what embarrassment this brought countries like Togo and Cameroon at the World Cup.
