GFA spokesperson, Saani Daara GFA spokesperson, Saani Daara

Spokesman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has described the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Professor Francis Dodoo, ignorant to issues concerning appearance fees received by the Black Stars and other national teams.

The President of the GOC, recently rendered the payment of appearance fees to players of the senior national football team, the Black Stars and other national teams, as a non -starter as government through the Sports Ministry, have paid extravagant amounts to players for appearing at mega sporting events such as the World Cup.

In an interview with Sportscrusader.com Mr Daara said, “people who are not engaged in football and do not understand the issues with regards to football very well; appearance fees are not taken from the coffers of the nation unlike other sporting disciplines, but rather FIFA takes charge of this settlement”.

“This comments portrays a very negative image of the Football Association and reduces the confidence of the general public and corporate bodies as well which is having a deterring effect on the development of the sport,” he added.

The Spokesman further emphasized that such comments goes a long in generating hatred for the players who are sacrificing for this country.

The spokesman also established the fact that football in general has helped to build the image of the country to a greater extent and that, no other sporting discipline can contribute such an enormous benefit than what football has.
