The main problem as you rightly said is the parents. One would have thought that breakthrough with education for girls should mean freedom for girls to play soccer at all levels. It sounds a bit primitive for parents to oppose their girls from playing soccer in this day and age. Women soccer has been internationally accepted with world cups, continental, regional and national competitions. This sounds great and looks it`s a very good sign for both parents and girls.
There should be local teams and national women leagues at all levels. This should be reinforced with competitive regional and continental women soccer just as that of the men.
In Ghana for instance there should be much publicity and promotion for women soccer. The girls and their parents should be encouraged and assured of the potential for the sport and the benefits to be accrued by the girls and women as a whole. It needs promotion and encouragement and all fears will be quelled eventually.
