What the story says is that he "expressed disappointment at his inability to become the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic medal" and "won most titles in the sport except an Olympic medal".
Now, even if he were to win Gold in Moscow in 1980, would he have been the first Ghanaian to win a medal? NO, because someone had already won a medal in 1972.
Anyway, you're OVER THE BAR in your ILLITERACY.
Never again say "you will realiseD" (or "you will starteD" or "you will decideD" or any of that blockhead stupidity).
But thank you for alerting me to Isaac Clement Ike Quartey, Sr., who won Silver at the Rome Olympics in 1960, and that makes Azumah's statement even weaker, because if we had gone to the Olympics in 1980 and won anything, he would have been the 3rd, not the 1st.

Hypocrite Ghana exempted itself from the 1980 Olympic Games, not because of Apartheid South Africa but because Americans wanted to punish the Soviets (now Russia) by using African Nations. They sent Mohammed Ali to 5 African Nations including Nigeria and Kenya to persuade Africans to boycott the games. The aim was to convince African Nations who wanted to make full participation to boycott and once again Ghana made a fool out of herself citing some stupid reason to boycott. The 1980 Summer Olympic Games was held in Moscow at the height of the Cold War.

Yes, during those years, African nations had threatened not to participate unless South Africa was barred, and so the apartheists were kept out.
After 1960, South Africa did not return till 1992, so what is Azumah talking about?
And I remember Ali coming around to Africa on his American-solidarity visit, about 15 years after his African-solidarity visit in the '60s.

Azumah never said he was disappointed for not having the opportunity to be "the first to win an olympic medal"...that was the writer's statememt, and that is where the error is coming from. Read further down and see what Azumah is quoted to have said.."nobody has won an olympic gold medal and that was my dream......." Analyse the Professor's statement and you should see he was talking about an Olympic 'GOLD' medal (not just an Olympic medal) which indeed no Ghanaian has ever won. If you are analytical you will not only appreciate the fact of the matter but also the great vision this great man had and still has!

This is a man our nation should treasure and even adore for putting Ghana on the map of world boxing - and I can say in credulity that it will take another century to have another Azumah Nelson - not in our lifetime. To be inducted into International Boxing Hall of Fame is no mean achievement. There are only two boxers of the whole continent, the late Dick Tiger of Nigeria and Prof. Azumah Nelson of Ghana, a feat that will not be equaled for years to come.
Thank you Prof., you did for your country and you deserve our praise and honour.
