Augustine Arhinful, former player of the Black and an Ambassador of the Ghana 2014 World Cup Project, has slammed members of the Planning Committee for the poor management.
He said “The people who planned our participation at the 2014 World Cup had no knowledge in football”.
Arhinful made these remarks when he appeared before the Justice Senyo Dzamefe Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Monday.
According to former striker, most of the frustrations they encountered during the World Cup were as result of the incompetence on the part of the members of the planning committee.
“When we arrived in Brazil, we spent the entire day looking for hotel, because all arrangements made for us were cancelled. My Lord, we were finally checked into our hotel at 2am after arriving in Brazil in a day earlier.”
Arhinful, however denied receiving $20,000 as per-diem while in Brazil.
On the issue of appearance fee, he said that, the players deserved appearance fee because they have a short career span, with no pensions.
The former Black Stars' player however, suggested that negotiations on appearance fee should be concluded in Ghana before the team departs for future competitions.
He stated that, future payments of appearance fee should be electronic but added that, petty allowances such as per diems should be paid in cash to players.
“My Lord, it was embarrassing to hear that our players kept appearance fee in the dressing room. This, I am certain affected their performance in the last game against Portugal, hence the need to pursue the electronic system vigorously.”
