After the strike, they came back to Togo , and Adebayor was enrolled in Akoussa's Football Academy where he was selected to play for Togo under 17 in 1999. Later that year they became champion in Sweden and Adebayor was recruited by Metz, a french team.
Just as Moutairou Rafiou, Salou Bachirou, Salou Tadjou, Djima Oyawole, and Oloufade Adekambi, Adebayor is a pure Togolese of Yoruba descent. In Togo, Yoruba people enjoy the same rights as other tribes like Mina, Ewe, Ouantchi, Tem/Kotokoli, Kabye, Moba, Bassari, Tchamba, Naoudeba, Akebou, Tchokossi , Akposso, etc..., and are therefore Togolese.
