Kwesi Appiah backs sacking of Muntari, KP Boating

Coach Kwesi Appiah has defended his decision to sack duo Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng from the Black Stars camp in the wake of Ghana’s early exit from the 2014 World Cup.

The influential players were told to leave the team’s camp early Thursday morning following various instances of indiscipline.

Muntari physically attacked a high-ranking member of the Ghana FA during a meeting meant to resolve the delayed payment of appearance fees to the players.

The AC Milan star was said to have punched Executive Committee member Moses Armah for suggesting to the players to forget about their unpaid cash and concentrate on their game against Portugal.

Kevin-Prince Boateng on the other hand is said to have insulted coach Kwesi Appiah during the recovery training session after the thrilling 2-2 draw with Germany.

Both players left the Ghana camp on Thursday morning before the team took to the field against Portugal in their final group game which Ghana eventually lost 2-1 to crash out of the tournament after the first round.

But coach Kwesi Appiah insists the decision was to serve the best interest of the team.

“The decision to send two players home this morning has got to do with disciplinary issues,” Appiah said.

“At this level, you look at the team and not individual players.

“You look at what will benefit the team and that is why we decided to take the decision.”

The players have since been handed an indefinite suspension from the Ghana team.
