Is Essien, the one who attempted to 'gift' Akwasi Appiah $25,000 as Akwasi Appiah had revealed the other day?
I am just asking?
If the rumors is true that Essien was that player who tried to give him a gratuity, could that dampen Essien's spirit and confidence?
In most establishments or businesses, any gift more that $25 could be considered a BRIBE
Or some unpleasant exchanges have happend behind close doors?
Or Essien is injured?
The FANS deserve to know the TRUTH and the situation with Essien for MIA up till date.

Remember our Kumasi game with Zambia when the guys were threatening to upset the apple cart...it took the entry of Essien to calm things down amd overwhelm Zambia. Essien reads games better than several coaches put together. The Zambia French coach after the game showered praises on the intervention of Essien at a crirtical part of the game.He knited Essien "Sir Essien.
What the Zambian coach is politely saying ,my dear brother, is that he was beating Akwasi tactically(AA was at sea completely with the Zambians all over the BS) till Essien came and unravelled his tactics.
Essien AND OF COURSE SULLEY MUNTARI are assets at Brazil WC whether they plays for 10 mins or 90

If he is not good enough for Chelsea and not so good for his current club, may be we should think twice about his role with BS.
Or may be he's the best we have when measured against the rest of the BS pack.
If that is the case; a player not good enough for chelsea,is one of the best and 'experienced' for ghana , then obviously Blacks Stars are in a BAD SHAPE. - Its all talk, i guess.

Kofi,
You are making sense, I am not particularly worrried too much about him especially if BS does not have a better substitute. What bothers me is his fitness. Is he fit enough to match the physical toughness the level of play demands?
I just wouldn't want the coach to feature him because he's 'untouchable'. I want him to be featured based on merit and physical fitness.
As far as the bribe thing is concerned I am not making this up. When AA revealed that one of his guys tried to 'gift' him $25000 but he refused the money , there was another article that suggested it was Essien. I would think he would come out to vehemently refute it, but I can understand if he did not want to waste his precious time on such rumours and insinuations.
Bad news travel far.
We would expect Essien to have reported to camp by now. All the players but for him have either reported in Ghana or in Netherlands.
Fans will like to know what is going on with Essien. Is he recuperating from injury or it's something else?

Besides his lack of fitness, what example is he setting for the younger guys by not showing up to camp till now? It might lead to chaos in camp, because many will start to feel he, Essien, is untouchable. If this behavior was displayed in any other national team, he would have been dropped long ago. Examples has been set for many more experienced and fit players, how much more Essien? Maann, I think Kaka, Ronaldhino, Henry Thiery, Donovan, etc should still be playing for their teams then is experience is so important. And stephen Appiah should be recalled. Come on, Essien can assist with the backroom stuff and motivate the players plus give advise. We need to learn from what happened with Kuffuor in the 1 0 Italy game and not repeat it.

@Kofi Sammy, Nobody hates Essien. He had been a prolific player and there is no doubt about it. But have you had time to watch him recently? Why Mourinho relegated him to the bench and why Seedorf at AC Milan is doing the same thing? Essien is no more the Essien we had known him to be. Stamina -suspect. Acceleration-deserted. No tackling but just moving backwards with his hands behind or besides him, giving an opponent room and space to easily release ball to his partner or shoot at goal. In fact, his call-up was strange to me. This is a national issue and we all have the right to comment and give some insights about some players to AA and he, for the sake of the nation which must come first, AA must listen. If the experience is there but can not be utilised on the field of play, then it amounts to zero.

It's not like Kevin Price Boateng is a Patriot, so based on your logic we should drop him as well. You need to know Essien is probably 40 years old. He had a bad knee injury and needed time to recover as he is no spring chicken. Same as Vorser. As you age it takes longer to recover, so playing for the Black Stars on African turfs would not have been a smart decision. Clearly it's taken him a while to get back to fitness and he probably still is not 100%. Drop him for fitness reasons but forget your patriot talk.

A player's form a couple of months ago cannot be used as yardstick for his form today.
Referring to how he fared in 2010 WC??? - kidding me?
There must me a very good reason why Chelsea felt no reason to field Essien and even a team that just bought him for lots of $$$ will not use him.
C'mon now.
We should stop the obsession and come to our senses.
Unless Essien is the best we have and no one in the pack can do better in the role he plays than him.
We love Essien, but his CURRENT performance is suspect, even his local teams thinks he's a wash.
I don't want to hear his past performance several months or years ago. We want to know about his club performance.

You have both raised excellent points. To add my view to what you 2 have said I believe that if we should go by current form alone Mr. Essien is not in the best form for this World Cup. On current form alone Afriyie, Muntari, Rabiu and A. Badu are in much better shape than Michael (I'm talking about central mid fielders alone)
Secondly if our aim is to reach the final this means that we will be playing 6 matches - 3 group matches and then 3 knock out games - in view of this we have to be careful to select only the fittest and the strongest to play. Which of the central mid fielders can consistently play all 3 group games and then 3 straight k/o games to bring us the cup or even get to the semi finals..??
Based on the same fitness argument I have my doubts about Kevin P B...This fine gentleman doesn't seem to be fit enough to play 90 minutes for Schalke. And even when he plays he doesn't tackle like he used to do 4 or 5 years ago...
In terms of our striking or attacking midfielder options I'm not exactly sure what extra Mr. Boateng brings that we don't already have in Atsu, Andre Ayew, Warris, etc...
Please note I'm not suggesting that these 2 should be dropped but if honorable Dr. AA has used the form guide to select the 26 - he should equally use the same form and fitness guide to select the 23.
Having said the above if by June 1st every player is fit and training well, then it's my humble opinion that ADOMAH, JORDAN and one (1) other person should be dropped. Again if there are no injuries nor fitness issues with any player...IF...
Lastly, I hope Mr. Muntari shows up at training ...And I hope he's not fighting for his best friend to be selected at all cost, that's why he's either delaying or not showing up in camp. We need him...again I HOPE!!!

b looks like AA is doing his best as far as player selection is concerned. Each of us will have a hard time selecting 23 out of the eligible players.
I can also see that AA's confidence has shot to the roof, given all the high 5s and praises from GFA and most football enthusiasts.
I just hope he is tough and bold enough to weed out anyone who holds the team to ransom.
DISCIPLINE is a key ingredient for success of any team sport
Indiscipline and unruly players should never be included in the squad. AA should send a strong message and cut off any problematic player from the team.
The BS as a team is stronger and more formiddable than any raucous, knuclehead player who thinks the team cannot do without him.
There must be unity in the camp and the players must support and execute the coaches decision at all times regardless of their personal feeling
If Muntari is found to be playing any 'games' for his personal aggrandizement, he should be cut right away. We can deal very well without him. Hopefully that's not the case and we are just making a fuss over unfounded allegations.

In other words, he is still in the Black Stars as a favour due to his amazing services to Ghana's international football growth from 2004 to 2008. Since then, he has only been a fringe player through injuries and self-imposed absenteeism.
