We either lost or draw with very weak teams in international friendlies because the Coach fields his favorite Team C calibre players. Don't you think FIFA has noticed that? When Nigeria and Ivory Coast are playing substantial opposition and getting good results, what do we do? Blame GFA and Akwasi Appiah and not FIFA, though the rankings are suspect.

I agree with you on one part but disagree on the other. Yes, we have not been playing tough teams and so is affecting our rankings. On the other hand, Nigeria played Italy not long ago and they still rank lower than we rank.

I dwell on this ranking ideology, but some times, it goes over my head. The calculations for the rankings don't add up to me after qualifications. After qualifications the next is the real tournament. Therefore, don't let us be entangled with this ranking web for it is not that important at this time. What is important is for us to have a huge impact in the WC, which we usually do. If we can surprise the world once again, like we have been, our rankings in the world wouldn't matter.

Yes, Akwasi Appiah may have tested his team 'C or 'B' with our freindly matches left to play before the main event. Are you saying it is not a good thing for the national team to test oits players? Coach Appiah may have known his main 15 to 18 regular players by now. For a coach to have an idea of his team, don't you think by he using these same players in all freindly matches wouldn't benefit the team? To me, the coach needs others to step into the regulars' positions when the need arises. Therefore, using his team 'B' in friendly matches, I don't see anything wrong with that. Most of us can name the obvious 15 to 18 regular players the Black Stars is going to take to the WC without thinking twice of it. How about the rest of the players to add to get that 23 players? Can we? Friendly matches are used to evaluate not only the regular players but also the needed ones to complete the squad.

I plead with you to give the coach a break. Let us see what he has.

I do not know why people have this idea that a coach or Ghana Black Stars must win all the time. Great soccer powerhouse like Italy, Germany and Brazil just to know a few who had won the World Cup more than once do not win all the games. Great coaches like Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Joachim Loew and Pep Guardiola just to name a few do not win all the time.

All international “A” matches played in the previous four years (48 months).

HOW ARE RANKING POINTS CALCULATED?
Points are won on the basis of a number of specific criteria:
• Points for a win, draw or defeat (3, 1, 0)
• Status of match (multiplication factor of 1 to 4)
• Strength of opponent (multiplication factor of between 0.50 and 2.00)
• Strength of confederation in question (multiplication factor of between 0.85 and 1.00)

WHO BENEFITS FROM THE REVISION?
Generally speaking, the biggest winners are the teams who win competitive matches, especially against highranking
opponents. Draws secure only limited gains, particularly in friendly matches, while defeats do not bring
any points.

WHO LOSES OUT?
Teams who often lose or draw matches will get fewer points. Furthermore, any team that records a major victory
(e.g. a continental championship title) will suffer losses in the ranking 12 months later if, by that time, it has not
gained lots of points in more recent matches.

WHAT HAPPENS TO TEAMS THAT HAVE NOT PLAYED ENOUGH?
If a team has played less than five matches in the preceding 12 months, its total for the year (e.g. for the three
matches it has played) is simply divided by five.

WHY DO TEAMS SOMETIMES LOSE POINTS EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE NOT PLAYED?
The longer it is since a match was played, the less important it becomes for the ranking. This continues until,
after four years, the match no longer has any impact on the calculation of the ranking. As a result, it is possible
for teams to climb or fall in the ranking even if they have not played.

42.5 draw in a friendly match between teams ranked 150 or below *
127.5 victory in a friendly match against a team ranked 150 or below *
600.0 victory in a friendly match against the top-ranked team °

2400.0 victory against the top-ranked team during a FIFA World Cup™ final competition °
