Rafael Mensah retains WBA Pan-Africa Lightweight title

Rafael Mensah of Ghana maintained his perfect career record by successfully defending the WBA Pan-Africa Lightweight belt following a 4th round technical knockout win over Benin’s Serouna Mouibi on Saturday night in Accra.

Unbeaten Mensah AKA Sweet Pea improves to 21-0, 16 KOs after a dominant display against Mouibi, flooring the Beninois in the 3rd round before annihilating him in the 4th until Mouibi couldn’t take it any longer right at the end of the round. 2.59 minutes of round four the clock read when referee Roger Barnor stopped the hotly contested bout. Mensah who is currently ranked 6th in the WBA’s Lightweight division has vowed to follow in the footsteps of the great Ike Bazooka Quartey and win a world boxing championship soon. The man nicknamed Sweet Pea is delighted at his latest victory and is pledging to work even harder to realise his dreams. “It was a good fight and I like the way I went about the job. I trained very hard for this fight and I am happy I put up such a good performance. But I’m going straight back into the gym to start training again. I’m not resting until I become world champion,” Rafael Mensah said at ringside.

In unison with the boxer is his manager and promoter, Anthony Kermah, CEO of Landmark Promotions and Management who put up the fight last night in the Ghanaian capital.

“It was a good show by Rafael and I think he is now close to challenging for the world title. We are looking at getting him one or two international fights to give him a real test. He should defend this title by May and fight again in November and we’ll look at a world title shot early next year,” said Mr. Kermah.
