WHEN GH WENT TO THE 2006 WCUP, WE DISPLAYED OUR BRAND OF AUTENTHIC GH SOCCER BUT WITH A SERBIAN COACH AT THE HELM. THE only problem then was then we couldnt score. gh still hasnt been able to perfect the art of taking the ball into the 18 and scoring from there. we still prefer to adopt the lazy approach of shooting the ball from 25yards. i dont understand this. look at our chan team. they never take the ball inside the 18. all the do is shoot from 25yards, and yetkonadu is standing there with his arms folded. isnt he supposed to say smthing? we have had aa as coach for over a year now. ask yourself why we still dont play our authentic, entertaining Agro football which is full of skill, power and interposition play?

This is a very bad analysis from a former coach who should know better.
The game have changed. It is now more scientific, not entertaining.
If you wonder why even the real kings of agro (Brazil) have not won anything lately, it is because they are now playing catch-up to the scientific aspect, although they were pioneers in the scientific game, which complemented their more entertaining game. Now, the emphasis is more on the science and less on the flair.
Besides, international soccer is global. No man is an island, and Ghana is defininatly not isolated.
Our players ply their trade overseas and are learning and adapting to different systems. Now, are you going to tell me that when those Black Stars are assembled, you gonna tell Sully Muntari to forget everything he practises in Milan and go back to his way of playing when he was hanging out in Nima and betting with everybody that he was going to play "sulia" with the ball around them?
Stop attacking foreign coaches. After playing soccer for a century, we hired them to help put us on the global soccer map, which the successfully did, and, even their local assistants, such as Sellas Tetteh and Akwasi Appiah also gained some pointers from them.

coach afranie has always claim glory for the under 17 world cup won in 1991, when he in fact was an assistant to coach oti phister. coach afranie has also forgotten that even before he was made an assistant of that squad it was coach oko aryee who groomed the likes of barnes, mbeah, preko, odartey, brown, opoku, midjima etc.
if coach afranie were head coach of the 1991 under 17 team ghana could not have won the trophy. coach afranie would have kept asare at 3, odartey @ 8. however, otoo used his players so well that we saw asare effectively in central defence, making room for mbeah so well @ 3, and using odartey as a blind striker which allowed dan addo to pull a lot of strings in midfield. afranie would not have done that. on tv recently afranie claimed he has met brazil 3 times at youth level and had beaten them twice forgotten that he wasn't in charge during 1991

Soccer is more advanced these days and even the so called "agro soccer" that Afranie is talking about isn't our creation after all we copied it from Brazil and called ourselves Brazil of Africa.
Until Brazil gave up that kind of soccer, between 1971 and 1993 was a real disaster. They never won the world cup until they started adding power to their brand of play in 1994 and that was 24 years after they last won the world cup. While you're planning to move ahead, somebody else is planning your downfall. Go ask Barcelona who are with all the galaxy of stars in their team. They adopted this same agro bullshit and for the past 2 or so years they've not won anything in the European club championships. The days of one man show kind of soccer is no more. You can conjure magic for one or two seasons and be everybody's target for the rest of your soccer life. It's a cat and mouse game out there Boss.

Before George Ainsley came to Ghana we were competing to see who could kick the ball highest into the air or farthest from a point. Then we got to know that football is a passing game and we wallopped our traditional rivals, Nigeria. Then Stanley Mathews came and dribbled everybody as if the ball was glued to his feet, and everybody tried to play like him and James Adjei was the master drbbler in Ghana. Those who want to condemn foreign coaches should always remember that foreigners have played important roles in the development of Ghana football. Agro never qualified us for the world cup. C. K. Gyemfi did not win Africa cup with agro he did it with the knowledge of football coaching he acquired from abroad.

There are at least 3 types of Agro football. There is one type you play towards the end of a match to tantalize your opponents if you are ahead by a safe margin of goals. Then there is scientific agro that was played in the Gold Coast and Ghana. That owes its origins to Sir Stanley Mathews and his disciple -- the great James Adjei who was Osei Kofi's mentor and friend. Then there was the Brazilian influence when the Black Stars played with Brazilian teams of the 1950s and 1960s. These teams had super-stars of agro. Players like Leonidas, Garrhinca, Vava, Didi,Rivelino, Pele, Pepe, Clodoaldo,Tostao.....
Coach Josef of Hungary realized the importance of agro in soccer so he constructed the modern Black Star team around players who could dribble and score goals; players who could dribble and set-up goals; players whose dribbling will mesmerize the opponents to the point of frustration; defenders who can stop opposing attackers effortlessly using body feints; players who will dribble one or twice in the penalty box and then release extra-accurate goal-bound thunderbolt shots that can bring down the walls of a city and of course goalkeepers that are acrobatic and reliable. That was when the era and myth of Ghana soccer was born. The dribblers include Baba Yara, Kwame Adarkwa,Osei Kofi, Amusa Gbadamoshi, Aggrey Fynn, Ofei Dodoo
The defenders included Dogo Moro, Emmanuel Owens Olitey, Ben Kusi,Franklin Crenstill, Ben Simmons, Addo Odamettey. The cherubic wingers included Mohammed Salisu, Emmanuel Boateng and Agyeman Gyawu. The thunderbolt srikers included Edward Acquah, CK Gyamfi and Wilberforce Mfum. The goalkeepers were Addoquaye Laryea, de Graft and Dodoo Ankrah.
The 1960s Black Stars beat Italy 5-2, lost 2-1 to World XI during a tour of Europe in 1964; played 3-3 with Real Madrid ( who fielded Puskas and de Stefano the world's best); drew 1-1 with Argentina.....This team won the Africa world cup qualifying but were asked to play Spain for a spot before playing in World cup. Then Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah "Showboy" called for a
boycott.
The other kind of possessive soccer, the all-flair brand taught by Le Roy and Milo the Serbian looks beautiful and is a form of scientific agro. The only problem with this style is that it is based on scoring the minimum numbers of goals in victory or defeat. It could be frustrating.

You will agree with me that, it may have been one of the many reasons, one or two of which, could have been due to poor planning/mismanagement and the infection of 'Onyame B3y3 syndrome'
As of now, Africa, by no fault of theirs would always inevitably, look for 4 qualifiers to add up to Ghana for continent's triumphant entry into the prestigious festival at the turn of every 4yrs. Haaaaaaaaa I Laf.
Do you believe that? Haaaaaa
Beats Me.

That not-so-serious agro football even though is a trait of Ghanaian football, couldn't take us far. that is why no harm is done if we modify it for success. We cannot afford to be left behind

Coach Afranie, ican understand and feel sorry for your concern but what you're forgeting is we(Ghanaians)have this stupid notion that everything foreign is the best.
I am very sure that you as somebody to have coached the national team at all levels and other local clubs will attest to it that even most of the players you've coached or coaching perfer a foreign(most likely),a white skinned third, fourth, fifth grade coach to you and other local coahes.Something i find so sad and stupid.
The perception we hold in our minds is what is preventing us from making any headway in anything as far as nation development is concerned.
The point you've raised doesn't apply to only football but on everything we do as people.
Not until we realise that the destiny and direction of our country lie in our own hands so we must change to make things happen,i am afraid to say your cry and call will fall on deaf ears.
Isn't it so sad and worrying that as a nation we keep begging and relying on others to do everything for us?
By the time i finish writing this somebody from leaders on the plane going somewhere to beg for aids or ask for a loan with excessive interest and yet nothing is get done properly in our dear country.
Coach Afranie i share your view and concern but unfortunately most of our compatriots including even our law makers are of the view that only what's foreign is good for us.
Pay attention to some comments about Akwasi Appiah and draw your conclution.

Years ago, for those old enough to remember, the Black Stars did not fare well against European teams. We had very good players but played a patternless game. It was a kick and run affair. That style of play suited us when playing African teams. In the early 70's Morocco descended on us at the Kumasi sports stadium with a brand of football never before seen by Ghanaians. We were humiliated by three goals. So Afranie, European coaches have rather enriched our style of play. K. Appiah has adopted it and using it.

Our possessive football and cohesion is absent. That's why Zambia and Egypt outplayed us in their second games. We won the former and lost the latter matches respectively. We should try to rediscover our style of play and make an impact in WC-2014. I wonder if Coach Kwasi Appiah can do that. Then we'll have to know the new tricks in the game too. We have a lot to do.

The first international trophy won by Ghana was when Otto was the head coach of starlets during the time Odartey, Duah and the rest played at the under 17 level. It`s not about local or foreign coaches instead, it`s about the head coaches` ability to take the national team to the world cup and win. With the senior national team no local head coach was able to qualify the team for the world cup. Local coaches should now be ready to take up the mantle now that Kwasi Appiah is putting confidence in the hearts and minds of the people of Ghana. Somebody has just said that today`s soccer is more scientific and gave Brazil as example. They have not always made it to the world cup and have not always won the cup considering their style of play.
It is not so much of a local head coach but every country wants to play in the world cup and win the cup. Local coaches were tried but they could not meet the challenge so the GFA had to bring in foreign coaches and in both 2006 and 2010 Ghana was not disgraced at both world cups. What I would say to you is that let the achievements of the foreign coaches serve as a challenge to you. Improve your coaching skills and wait until Kwasi Appiah is totally done with his exploits and achievements then may be it would be your turn at that point.
