Are you saying we should continue being foolish when dealing with white people but stingy with our own? we continue to be slaves, this time psychologically. Sad at comments disagreeing with the writer of this noble piece. Is it because our leaders are able to get huge chunks of part of the money paid to the whites? I wonder how many Africans are treated exceptionally because they are expats in Europe. God help the black race.

Agyeman's point is that the ex-pats already had respectable contracts before the qualifiers for afcon an the wc even began.
Agyeman was only wrong on 2 facts:
1. Appiah did not serve under Duya.
2. Milo was making 50,000 per month, not 45,000.
After the wc in 2010, he wanted 100,000 per month.

There seems to be a concerted effort to influence how Ghanaians perceive Akwasi Appiah, and consequently, to influence his re-appointment or pay increase. We have seen this approach in our politics, where some individuals or a group of people strongly campaign for people who simply do not qualify to occupy any position. Ghanaian politicians have been able to convince Ghanaians that simply voting for a candidate will bring prosperity, and we believe them. We all can testify if this has ever been true in our history.
I sense similar approach here, where some individuals are trying very hard to convince Ghanaians that Akwasi Appiah is the best in the world. Where are the trophies to show? Ghana has won nothing since he was appointed (given the quality of players we have now), so it beggars believe that people are campaigning for him. Is this not the typical Ghanaian way we approach issues? Only a miracle can untie us from the web we are caught in, if we don't change our ways.

Also the expats are paid more for the simple reason that they need extra incentives- good accommodation , transport etc. Does Kwesi Appiah deserve a raise surely, but he also needs to ask the GFA and not expect them to voluntarily increase his wages. KA signed a contract through 2014 for $20,000 and he has to honor the contract. There was no incentive clause to increase his salary after qualification. If you hire a proven European coach then you pay him top dollar. If you hire a local coach then let him prove himself before you pay him the same as a European coach. This is not about rascism. If you had the talent locally you would not have looked outside so logically you pay a premium for getting an outside coach. When KA does well at the World Cup then pay him the same or more as any European coach because he would have risen to the same or higher standards. Prove yourself on the European or World stagee (not Africa) and then you're worthy of what you are asking for. Now, someone making $20,000 or at least 40,000 Ghana cedis to do a job where his team plays maybe 6 times a year if that, and does not need all that. Why is he feeding his entire hometown? Come on. Prove yourself and get the same or higher salary.

Some comments about Africans hating themselves and so on are wide of the mark. There are instances where as Africans we show a lack of appreciation for ourselves and our countries but this is not a good example.
Appiah has done well, but his contract was agreed on the basis of his previous experience which was assistant head coach, there were no trophies, no coaching badges or experience with other African teams/countries let alone teams outside of Africa. So who in their right mind would pay someone more compared to any coach, white, asian or latin american if you don't have the same level of experience.
If Appiah was like Otto Addo experience in the Bundesliga at a top club or Sellas Tetteh proven to win trophies then yes, you could argue paying more, but simply being African and saying pay more for qualifying to the WC is not an exxcuse.
Look at how Tetteh is now negotiating with Ismali to be the first non Arab coach, do you think it's because he is black that they said ok we will or won't consider him...no, it's his proven record.
Some of you who are screaming now for an increase were you shouting for the same after AFCON 2013.
Let's get things into perspective, if Appiah does well at the WC, because that's what the benchmark will be not simoly qualifying then he will be able to write his own cheque and deservedly so, even it is better given that no African coach has taken an African team far at the WC so imagine if he did, all the world would be at his feet, but that IF he does it, and until he does his salary is fair, although he should (assuming he negotiated with the GFA) receive a WC qualifiying bonus.

AA NEEDS A FOREIGN TECHNICAL DIRECTOR IN BRASIL. YES, AS HEAD COACH 20GRAND IS NOT MUCH, BUT WAT HAS HE WON IN TERMS OF TROPHIES? KONADU HAS WAFU, PREMIER LEAGUE ETC....U ARE PAID BASED ON THE RESULTS
And that's the truth. GFA are you listening?
The fact that we pay white coaches FOOLISHLY with other people's money does not mean we should do same to Akwasi Appiah. $20,000 per month is even too much
Are you saying we should continue being foolish when dealing with white people but stingy with our own? we continue to be slaves, this time psychologically. Sad at comments disagreeing with the writer of this noble piece. Is ...

Bottom line is, Kwasi Appiah deserves more than he is being paid for the job well done in qualifyin the Ghana Black Stars to Brazil 2014, my friend.
Ilearnt that, Marcel Desailly demanded a much higher salary and his application was rejected. We must remember Appiah on paper had no records to back him to demand a higher income. If he acquires the neceasary credentials he ...

Africans value white skin more than their own. That is the only explanation. How dare you threat you own like that?
Akwasi Appiah should take GFA to court for racial discrimination.
it is shame brother, that is why they are not improving.they are ignorant
It never surprises me how badly we treat our own. If truly Mr Appiah is receiving $20,000 then that is really sad. It is not too late for GFA to correct this unfair treatment!
AFRICANS ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES. JEALOUSY, HATRED AND UNDERMINING. DESPITE OUR NUMEROUS TALENT AND RESOURCES WE ARE STILL POOR BECAUSE WE HATE OURSELVES. WHEN WILL THIS STOP? WHEN WILL THIS MENTAL SLAVERY STOP SO THAT WE ...

A coach brings special skill and talent.
A pepsodent steals all the wealth generated by your skill and talent.

I agree entirely with this article. Our coach has proven that he is capable. We have no reason to continue to underpay him. Let's pay him well and also extend his contract.
As for the contract, nobody should worry about that now.
If he makes it to even the quarter finals, it will be extended.
Why not?

20 thousand dollars a month or a year? If for one year it is small and should be increased but if for one month then it is enough.
KA signed a contract through 2014 for $20,000 and he has to honor the contract. There was no incentive clause to increase his salary after qualification. Coaches are paid based on the revenue generated by the team. He would h ...
