Beating Ghana? We could have thought of it in another time. But now everything is politics and the players have their minds also focused in politics, not in sports as it should be. We saw the debate around (Ahmed) Abdel-Zaher after the CAF Champions League final, when he flashed the Rabaa four-fingered sign. That is not a spirit in a team or even in a football environment seeking success.
- Alaa Rasmi, an accountant
I heard people and commentators say that the Ghanaians used black magic to affect our players and win the game. It may be true because I never saw the team playing that badly. We must be prepared to counter them if they're trying to repeat the same thing in Egypt. I would like us to play a very good game and beat them, so we could regain a little of our self. Although I think five goals is difficult, especially that they are a very good team.
- Ahmed Abdallah, security guard
Yes, we can beat them but not with five goals. I don’t think any team — neither Barcelona themselves — can beat Ghana five zero now. The players themselves are being realistic about it and many of them announced it in public to avoid giving the fans any false hopes. But I believe they all want to correct their image, especially the ones who are quitting after the game, like Mohamed Abou-Treika and Wael Gomaa. I think a 2/3 zero win would be consoling and satisfying. We were eliminated after the 6-1 defeat. It is something that Ghana can’t repeat if they play us 100 times.
- Mohamed Farouk, technical engineering
Of course not. We cannot beat them 5-0. It will be a very contested game. I would say 60-40 percent. We will watch goals. The scoreline will be 2-1, maybe 3-2. What’s sure is that we will score goals but we will also concede some. We will be rushing out to attack and will have empty spaces at the back and with our slow defenders, it is sure that they will hit us on counters. If we want to have a comfortable win we need to be very concentrated and I didn’t see any team do that since Ahly in the final of the African Champions League against Esperance in 2012 (Ahly won 2-1 in Tunisia).
- Ahmed Khairi, factory worker
I can't believe that there are many people who still believe we can make it to the World Cup. This is simply out of question; we are not going to play in Brazil. End of story!
- Samir Metwally, merchant
Winning the match is very important, not because we will reach the World Cup, but in order to restore pride after the first-leg defeat. The match in Kumasi doesn't reflect the real standard of Egyptian players, who were not at all lucky that day. Ghana are a strong and perfect team with a lot of high-quality European-based players.
- Mahmoud El-Khatib, former Egypt and Ahly player
The return leg will just be an occasion for the national team to take revenge after their defeat, but it won't be an obstacle in Ghana's path to the World Cup
- Hassan El-Mestekawy, sports editor
Call me crazy but I still believe we have good chances of beating Ghana and reaching the World Cup. We suffered a crashing defeat in Kumasi, in a very unusual day, and we want to prove it wrong. We still have 90 minutes and it will be eleven against eleven on the pitch.
- Egypt assistant coach Diaa Al-Sayed

I dont think that an African nation will ever WIN ..THE WORLD CUP ...in my Life Time for the simple reason that our natinal TEAMS ARE CONFRONTED or involved in Politics.I can also confirm that some African best players lack education so therefore they tend not to behave accordingly vis-a vis of their National Coach or Manager. Also by taking into account some exemples , I can name some players who lack discipline , disrecpect , they think they are untouchable and I bet you that had not been sport or Football most of them could have END-UP IN IN PRISON or some sort of serious Problem with the LAW...............

No and I mean a big NO.It will never happen simply because we Africans are not serious.WE think once you qualify for the World Cup,you have done what nobody can do.We always regard ourselves as inferior to the white or yellow man.So we are always satisfied and sing praises once we beat a non African country. That is why asamoah gyan blew a golden chance to move on in 2010.The Black Stars were satisfied that they were in the last eight. That is why today this same asamoah gyan is the captain. In Iddi Amins Uganda, this guy would be no where near the national team if he was even alive, how much more captain. Since we consider ourselves to be under the whiteman, the truth is anybody thinking of an African world cup victory in living in a dream land.

Africa has always been their own enemies, from time immemorial.
They saw nothing good, beautiful, splendour, beneficial or useful in their own.
We've been knocking on the doors of these foreign coaches for quite too long, not knowing:
EVERYTHING WE WILL EVER NEED IN OUR LIFETIME,IS ALREADY WITHIN OUR REACH,ONLY THE RECOGNITION OF IT.
Kwasi Appiah is an expressed image/example of the above statement.
AN AFRICAN FOOTBALL TEAM,LED BY AN AFRICAN COACH,IS THE ONLY ONE,THAT CAN WIN THE WORLD CUP.
BELIEVE YOU ME.
GHANA IS GOING TO DO IT IN 2014 WORLD CUP,HANDS DOWN.
One can fail to believe this, but there is nothing that can be done about its fulfilment.
The assistant coach of the GHANA BLACK STARS said something:
THERE IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT HAPPENING NOW,IN THE GHANA BLACK STARS,THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED LIKE THAT BEFORE.
He was talking about the difference in the players/team,their energy, poise, aura surrounding the whole team, and all their enthusiasm, confidence and faith being employed, are not comparable.
HE WAS TALKING OF A TOTAL WIN AT THE BIG PICTURE(THE WORLD CUP STAGE) HE WAS POSING TO THE WORLD.
Hey,brothers, this is our time.We should back them with our prayers, moral support, faith, confidence, and by God's grace, they will come out with flying colours,we all pray and wait for.
GOD BLESS GHANA AND THE BLACK STARS,
IN JESUS' NAME,

We only need GHANAIANS and NOT expatriates......to teach us all the technicalities of the game. After all, Sellas won the junior world cup without any foreign technical director of football or whatever.
Kwesi Appiah's technical team are as good as any in the world. Let's leave that slave mentality behind and stand behind Kwesi and his team 100%. He needs our support for the world cup, not inferiority complex.........
And above of all, if FIFA does not treat the world cup as a 'business only' entity.......Ghana and any other African country can win it. Yes! I'm referring to ticket sales!
That is, only if the referees are NOT biased towards us....as they usually are towards African nations in all competitions.....YES! WE CAN WIN IT!
Please take your time and go through most of the past African matches played in the world cup since 1992 and you would understand my position on this.

But also, as I pointed out, that also entails hard work. That new Africa is ready to fight his own battles and show that after all the black man is capable of managing his own affairs." - Independence speech by OSAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH - March 6, 1957, Accra, Ghana............................

Africa's inability to win the world cup is more psychological than lack of ability. In 1990, Cameroon which defeated Maradona's Argentina with 9 men, could have gone all the way but they surprisingly succumbed to an England team that they had outplayed. Then came the Super Eagles of 1994, the most talented team of the tournament. As if the accolades being showered on them were all they were after, they lost to not-a-highly rated Italy.
Ghana's inability to get the semi final in 2010 depicts Africa's sorry mental state even the best. After 90 minutes of thrilling soccer, Ghana had a penalty to score and get to the semi final but they failed. Then came the penalty shoot-out but it was too big for their psyche. Many people blame Suarez for our failure to qualify for the semi final in 2010 but that is not a sound argument. It is only someone mentally weak who expects favours from his opponent/enemy to excel. If Suarez were to be a Ghanaian we would have all hailed him as hero for what he had done. We must blame ourselves and not Suarez.
Africa will be able to win the WC if we become mentally tough. Importantly we should desist from "victim" mentality in football. For instamce, if a referee errs to the disadvantage of an African te, we should talk about the error as error and not an act against our race. We should always hold ourselves equal in relation to any other human being without any apologies.
2014 promises a great tournament for Africa. Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon are in good form. It is surely not going to be a one team show for Africa as happened in 2010.

In being 'street-wise' we should be able to kill off games getting to the end, when leading and protest to referees (at times) on bad decisions and not just take it on the chin as we always do.....due to our inferiority complex.
Finally, Analyst please don't be surprised to see our some of stars pulling out of the national team after the world cup.....as usual.

of course its possible that an African nation can and will eventually win world cup. i will not put up a bet but it could even be brazil 2014. i say this because there is quite a bit of luck involved as well depending on the teams that one is paired up against. take ghana's 2010 run. we would have been eliminated in group stages was it not for serbia's loss to austalia. we went onto play round of 16 against U.S.A and came out on top. we almost got past Uruguay in the quarter finals. i believe that ghana, nigeria, ivory coast can make semi final this time around. the teams are stronger and more committed. and once u hit semi-final the accumulated experiences of coach and players makes it a little easier. if ghana had progressed to semi-final in south africa, the adrenaline rush from the world of supportets alone could have carried them to glory. but alas it wasnt to be.

I think one other reason why many African teams fail to advance in the world cup is due to self doubt. Just as in many other things I think there is a certain level of inferiority complex that works against the African teams. I think almost all the teams go to the world cup telling themselves that they are only going to try but they don't believe they are good enough to win the cup.
With that kind of defeatist mentality, no matter how good any team is they are doomed to fail. I think aside from tactical training, the African teams need self affirmation and mental toughness and I bet Ghana and other African nations will have a very good chance of making it to the finals and even winning the world cup.
