The issue at stake here is that Essien is still at Chelsea, competing with many young and talented guys who are currently 'better'. It doesn't make him a 'fringe player'. No. Many matches would be played. And at the right time, he'd play.
In my YOUTH days, I'd just have responded to this article with a VENGEANCE. What Nonsense!

For me to conclude on any of Essien's performances, I think I will have to see him play a full 90 minutes. So far, he is good for what I saw from Zambia match. However, he played of only about 40 minutes. Whether he can play or not, I think Jose knows him better than anyone of us. If Essien is fully fit, I don't think Jose would have let him sat on the bench. His days are coming again, I believe that.

Switching from Chelsea to a different Champions League club, if only he is fit, will help him solve his problem. All he may need is to have more matches to play.

I don't think Essien will switch to another club so that he can play more matches.He will have to take a pay-cut which he does not fancy doing.He will rather sit on the bench to collect big money in Chelsea.

This writer seems not to know FIFA rules that regulate the football game. Essien being side-lined for now has less to do with his incapabilities and has more to do with coaching strategy. FIFA/UEFA regulation Art 18.07 says (in my own words) a player cannot play for 2 different clubs in the same UEFA Championship season. For that reason, Essien is an ineligible palyer for the UEFA Championship till the first round is over. (That is the FIFA rule aspect of why he is not been fed). Now, if you wee the coach, would you play such player even in your local league while those who will be playing the UEFA champion matches need gain more experience during the local league? Hell no!! If the coach give Essien more playtime to the detriment of the players who are eligible to play the Champions league, then that strategy would jeopardize their progress to the second stage of the champions league. That is the strategy the coach is playing. So please stop tying Essien's situation to his past injuries and his ability to compete with the other players...

Dude, that is not true. Essien qualified to play the Champions League but was dropped because Chelsea had too many foreign players on their books and one of them had to be dropped for the UCL squad. The requirements are different for the Premier League and hence the reason he is in that squad and not on the UCL squad. Hilario, the goalkeeper also had to be omitted from both UCL and PL squads for Chelsea.
