Here was what happened last weekend between the two Egyptian giants. First of all when you look at the sections made by both coaches, you can see that their best were picked. This gives us the sense that Egypt is not coming into this playoff with their weak players. Secondly, most of the players in these two squads are the best Egypt has in their national team. Only about two or three players would come from outside. In other words, the Egyptian national team is built around these players.
Now, read the written commentary and have the sense of what could be seen from these players. They play almost the same with their usual cut from both wings and sneaking behind opponent defenders.
Don't forget, Bob Bradley was around during this match and may take some notes from the way both clubs penetrates.
Kwasi Appiah, over to you. Don't ignore this and the strategies they use. Be familiar with them all.
90+2 Ekramy blocks a free-kick from Zamalek's Ahmed Hassan.
90 The referee adds four minutes of stoppage time.
88 A right-wing cross from Mohamed Ibrahim goes begging as Zamalek mount a late onslaught.
87 With three minutes remaining, Ahly have all but claimed all three points.
84 Ahly's stalwart Abou-Treika is replaced with left-back Ahmed Shedid.
82 Ahmed Hassan narrows the gap. Ekramy could only palm a cross into the path of the veteran midfielder at the far post to head into an empty net.
82 GOOOOOOOAAAAAAL FOR ZAMALEK!!
80 Dominique squanders the chance to add the fifth! He breaks clear but his shot is blocked by advancing keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed. Ahly are tearing Zamalek to shreds.
78 Some tense moments now. Shikabala is involved in another argument with Ahly defender Wael Gomaa and full-back Sayed Moawad.
76 Zamalek waste a golden chance!! A header from Ahmed Gaafar is tipped onto the bar by Ekramy.
75 Zamalek's final substitution. Omar Gaber is replaced with veteran midfielder Ahmed Hassan.
74 Dominique almost makes an immediate impact!! He misses the target with the goal at his mercy after breaking clear of the defence.
74 Another substitution for Ahly. Striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher makes way for Mauritanian frontman Dominique Da Silva.
72 Ahly make their first substitution. Man-of-the-match Soliman is replaced with midfielder Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet".
71 Right-back Ahmed Fathi ghosts behind Zamalek's static backline to fire home an angled shot after latching onto another defence-splitting pass from the impressive Walid Soliman.
71 GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAL FOR AHLY!!
68 The introduction of Zamalek's Mohamed Ibrahim injects zeal into the team's build-up play.
65 Zamalek have a penalty claim waved away by the referee after Hazem Emam appeared to have been brought down by Ahly's left-back Sayed Moawad.
62 An attempted volley by Ahmed Gaafar goes into the safe hands of Ekramy. Zamalek muster some tame efforts that hardly trouble Ahly.
60 Shikabala's ensuing free-kick is easily saved by Ekramy.
59 Ahly's left-back Sayed Mowad is booked for a handball.
58 A free-kick from Zamalek's Shikabala goes narrowly wide after striking the wall.
54 Zamalek make a couple of substitutions. Diminutive attacking midfielder Mohamed Ibrahim replaces Ahmed Eid and right-back Ahmed Samir makes way for winger Hazem Emam.
52 Talismanic playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika, the Cairo derby's all-time top scorer, meets a sublime back-heel pass from Walid Soliman with an unstoppable volley that beats Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed at his near post.
52 GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL FOR AHLY!!
51 Shikabala squanders a clear-cut chance to level the score! He runs onto a long ball to outpace his marker but his right-foot volley goes over the bar from inside the area.
50 Zamalek's left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafy whips in a cross but lone striker Ahmed Gaafar fails to get on the end of it.
49 A poorly-taken corner from Zamalek's Shikabala goes out.
47 Zamalek are likely to push forward to at least salvage a share of spoils as a defeat will all but end their hopes of booking a last-four berth.
The second half is underway
The referee blows his half-time whistle, Ahly 2-1 Zamalek
45+4 A header by Zamalek's Ahmed Eid at the far post is saved by Ekramy. A rare chance for the White Knights.
45 Zamalek defender Mahmoud Fathallah is receiving treatment after a free-kick from Abou-Treika struck his face.
44 At the other end, a weak shot by Zamalek's Ahmed Eid is easily collected by Ahly keeper Sherif Ekramy.
43 Ahly are moving the ball around smoothly amid little resistance from Zamalek's midfielders.
41 Both sides ease off in the latter stages of the first half.
38 Zamalek's fiery-tempered winger Shikabala shoves Ahly's left-back Sayed Moawad as the match is briefly interrupted.
35 Another chance for Ahly!! A close-range effort from Abou-Treika is blocked by Zamalek keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed.
32 Ahly waste a golden opportunity to extend the gap!! A powerful, angled drive from Abdallah El-Said strikes the crossbar from just inside the area.
28 Chances are few and far between now. Both sides are finding it difficult to maintain their rhythm.
24 Zamalek are mainly relying on Ahmed Eid to penetrate down the left flank. However, he is kept at bay by Fathi.
22 Zamalek have the better possession now as they up the tempo in a bid to restore parity.
18 Ahly keeper Sherif Ekramy produces a superb reflex save to prevent Zamalek from equalising. Gomaa's attempted defensive clearance ricochets off Zamalek defender Hamada Tolba but Ekramy blocks it at his near post.
18 Zamalek winger Ahmed Eid is struggling to get the better of Fathi, who is putting in a superb display so far.
15 Lone striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher towers above his marker to head home a pinpoint cross from right-back Ahmed Fathi. What an explosive start for the Red Devils!
15 GOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAL FOR AHLY!!
14 It's an evenly-balanced affair now.
11 A free-kick from Ahly winger Abdallah El-Said goes over the crossbar.
10 It's one of the most exciting starts to the Cairo derby in recent years.
9 Ahly winger Walid Soliman collects a deft pass, cuts inside his marker and breaks clear before crashing a powerful volley into the top corner. A wonderful goal for the hosts.
9 GOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR AHLY!!
7 Zamalek striker Ahmed Gaafar holds off challenger Wael Gomaa inside the area and sends a curling shot that narrowly misses the target.
6 Zamalek continue their habit of scoring early goals in Cairo derbies. Will Ahly equalise, as they usually do in such cases?
4 Zamalek's versatile midfielder Omar Gaber puts Zamalek ahead after he latched onto a superb chipped pass from winger Mahmoud Abdel-Razek 'Shikabala' to outpace defender Mohamed Naguib and notch home past advancing keeper Sherif Ekramy.
4 GOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR ZAMALEK!!
3 Abou-Treika's ensuing, curling free-kick is blocked by Zamalek keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed.
2 Ahly are awarded a free-kick near the edge of the area after midfielder Shehab Ahmed was brought down by Nour El-Sayed.
The match is underway
Stay tuned for Ahram Online's live coverage of the CAF Champions League Group A round five match between Ahly and Zamalek.
The atmosphere is not cheerful at all in the Gouna stadium as the game will be played behind closed-doors according to the ban imposed by CAF on Ahly.
With one hour to go, both teams arrived at Gouna stadium and will start warming up very soon.
Zamalek need to defy the odds and claim their first ever victory in the Champions League against Ahly to boost their chances of reaching the semis (check their head-to-head record in videos).
Zamalek have four points, three behind Ahly, South Africa's Orlando Pirates and DR Congo's AC Leopards after the Leopards win yesterday.
The game will be held behind closed doors at the Red Sea resort of Gouna, 430km from the capital, due to security concerns, though neither team attributes any importance to the location of the match.
Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed - Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, Mahmoud Fathallah, Hamada Tolba, Ahmed Samir - Ahmed Tawfik, Nour El-Sayed, Omar Gaber, Ahmed Eid Abdel-Malek, Mahmoud Abdel-Razek "Shikabala" - Ahmed Gaafar.

Rasheed, even if Asamoah Gyan is currently not fit, as you indicated, we can score with the midfielders we have. When you check our record, you will know that more goals are been scored through our midfielders than through our strikers. Yes, Egypt wouldn't be a piece of cake and so are the other teams. Like you said, "we are meeting a solid team," and I'm not disagreeing on that. However, we will beat them to go through.

We need a tie like this to jolt us up and make us pay attention to what is necessary to get us to Brazil. We need all players focused and united and I think this matchup provide that for us.
After all if you want to be in Brazil it should not matter who you play, you just have to be ready to win.

Oti Akenteng noted that the magnitude of the game would authomatically motivate the players to give off their best, isnt it the same with the Egyptians.
Its now down to who wants it more,we used to think Ghana is the best team in the world when we were kids,
those days its only after the match when we get beaten that we realise we are beatable or we can be beaten.
but now you realise you could be beaten long b4 the day of the game, and its not a good feeling, cos normally you look 4ward to the game!
I just don't think the team is as consistent as it should be at this time,in the past you know what to expect when the boys are in town, but not anymore.
I think the delay of the team to be consistent is due to the coach tinkerin too much with the squad, you cant buy experience and it was clear when essien came on against Zambia,
a lot of Ghanaians wrote him off but thats the difference between playing in the best teams in Europe for so many years and someone who just started.he came on and made the whole game easy and stressless.
the coach needs to stop dropping matured players uneccesarily,we need all our best players,I don't think anything should stop the old players, already proven players, still playing at top teams in Europe, having no problem whatsoever with his performance at club level to be dropped.
they need to always be in the team or on the bench, not to talk of in the squad.
if we are consistent as we used to be,strong as we used to be,we wouldn't need the magnitude of the game to authomatically motivate the players to give off their best.
and we wont think for a second that we could lose, because we'll all have believed in the teams consistency!

Africa should think fast. If Togo is one of the stronggest you should not pair them with another stronger team. Common sense.

IF THE PHAROAHS SAY THE QUALIFICATION IS A DO OR DIE MATTER, WHY IS THE GFA NOT TAKING THEM SERIOUSLY, BUT TRYING TO PLAY ON RESULTS BASED ON A FRIENDLY MATCH. FRIENDLY MATCH MEAN NOTHING AT ALL WHEN IT COMES TO COMPETITIVE MATCHES. A TEAM CAN BEAT ANOTHER 7-0 DURING A FRIENDLY A FEW MONTHS EARLIER AND LOSE TO THAT SAME TEAM IN A COMPETITIVE MATCH IN A FEW MONTHS' TIME. SO THE GFA AND THE BLACK STARS NEED TO TAKE THIS ROUND SERIOUSLY TO AVOID A BIG DISGRACE.

We may know the Egyptians weaknesses. But more importantly the coaches have to work on the weaknesses of the Black Stars. Notably amongst them is complacency; lack of focus; loss of concentration, over-elaboration and most worrisome of all the tendency to be selfish and individualistic. If these shortcomings are rectified and the team plays selflessly as a unit, we are capable of giving any team, not only the Egyptians, a good run for their money.

Rasheed, unlike you, I have faith in our players to meet the challenge head on and conquer Egypt if they show professionalism and experience gained from playing in Europe and elsewhere abroad. Yes, they must show discipline and tactical awareness, desist from selfishness and individualism and play as a team. I am sure the technical team have learnt a lot from the difficult path Ghana went through to reach this stage and will be able to rectify the team's shortcomings. You are right Egypt play as a team(Bob Bradley's teams are known for that) and they have been scoring goals. Mind you, we too have goal scorers like Abdul Majid Warris; Sulley Muntari; Kevin Prince Boateng; Dede Ayew and Wakaso amongst others. You claim Sallah scored for Basle. But you forgot to tell Ghanaians 3 of their compatriots were on the scoring sheets with their respective clubs in the same tournament tonight. Rasheed, I think you are wrong to wish your own country down simply because you have problems with somebody at the GFA. I think it is sensible to brighten the corner where you are. Neither do you point to your chalet with your left fingers, Rasheed.
