How much are they paying this guy (Atsu) that warrant them to demand such an amount. Ghanaian players in Europe, do not be fooled. They always intend to pay you and other African players less for your services only to demand more for your sales or transfers to other clubs when you are needed somewhere else. This is an IMPROVED SLAVERY in the making. GFA, please get involved and save or protect our children playing as professionals in Europe.

Alah's comments is typical of someone who does not understand the rules.
In terms of club football, the EPL is one of the leagues where a lot of players would like to feature, however a foreign player cannot sign for a premiere league club unless they have played in 75% of international games for their country(where they are available). How many local based players play in Black stars? VERY FEW. Therefore MOST players will accept a club in Spain, Italy, France etc where this 75% restriction does not apply. This gives them
1. Exposure to European clubs and
2. Call ups to the National side.
Once they hit their 75% international appearances, then they start receiving interest from EPL clubs. Of course, the Spannish and Italian clubs know what they are doing when they give these kids their chance, so they also have to make some money on their sale. If Atsu goes to Tottenham and performs well, he may be sold to another team for much more, and Porto the original people who gave Atsu his chance will not enjoy some of that bumper profit. Porto has added to Atsu's value by enabling him to reach his 75% international cap level, and they are therefore charging for it. Without Porto, Tottenham or Liverpool cannot even LOOK at Atsu.
What do you mean slavery? Would it be any different if Cheetah FC sold him to Tottenham directly? This is football. You buy players, and if someone wants your player, you give a price. If they can, they buy, if not you negotiate or goodbye!
What has the GFA got to do with it? GFA should tell local clubs not to sell their players? Or GFA should tell Porto what price to sell Atsu to Tottenham. The one day if Tottenham want to sell to Real Madrid, GFA should go and give them the price to sell too or what?!

I appreciate your interpretation or explanation pertinent to Atsu's situation. Regarding the GFA, what I mean is for the GFA to act as counselors to our player who intend play abroad (they are Ghanaians players so they need some kind of protection or advices). If that does not happen, that is where the slavery comes, because they would use all the technicalities to get over the players. Thank you very much for your time and for not using any profanities like some do. This is a positive behavior. Always comment on whatever I write. Thanks.

My argument against signing any more African players is that, if they are any good (and they must be pretty good to be playing in Europe), they bugger off to play in the African Cup of Nations, MID-season. We had all the crap with Adebayor leaving and then returning late, when he knew we had no striker alternatives to himself and Defoe. I'd sooner look for a European or South American alternative, whose continental tournaments are played post-season and, therefore, do not get in the way of the player's club commitments.

Sheikh, this is one of the arguments that the white man has tried to use to dictate to us Africans when we should hold our tournament, but we have (rightly) refused!!
Anyway, we cannot play post season, because June is the rainy season and as you know, our insfrastructure is dodgy, so unless you want us to watch African water polo, we need to play Jan/Feb.
I'm sure you should be able to manage without the African players for just a week or two......most teams get kicked out at the group stages anyways (OK I understand, the players do not come back immediately after they have been eliminated, but hey c'est la vie).
By the way, I thought all the Sheiks were in Manchester (City), what are you doing down in London?

By the way, is Sheikh also buying into similar bigotry (recently from the new English FA chairman Greg Dyke)that Qatar should not host the world cup cos it's too hot there in summer? In any case, sorry for diverting from the original topic and thanks Ern for educating others on the business of football. Buy at £1 and sell for £1 million.
