Why are we so elated by emotion and oral tradition. Why are we so emotionally charged against research and facts. Why can't we preempt the statistics of our talented athletes. For example who has more assists versus goals, who wins on a 50/50 contest in defense and midfield. These statistics can help with selection dilemmas and boost a declined Black Stars team. IF GHANA DOES NOT QUALIFY WHO IS TO BLAME? MANAGEMENT OR PLAYERS? OR BOTH. Ghana has no excuse not to qualify for the WC 2013. The responsibility lies in the hands of LEADERSHIP and management. They are the ones who can stamp out corruption, complacency and institute discipline.
Football is not played by talent alone.....it is an organization operated by ingenious personnel. Great managers do not have favorite players, they manage egos (not massage egos) to win trophies, PERIOD. You may be the best player, if you are stubborn and they cannot work with you, they get rid of you, PERIOD. Insubordination is the greatest 'disease' that defeats teams with above average players. Yes it is insubordination....'the refusal to obey orders/tactics/strategies/goals'.
Great players will play even if they disagree with the strategy and tactics of a game...because they want to play their hearts out to prove the cynics wrong. Greatness is scarce!!!

He floats along the touchline and with mesmerizing body swerea he cuts into the center circle and dribbles into the penalty box leaving a twisted and mangled wreckage of colliding defencemen in his wake. The person I am writing about is Baba Yara the King of wingers. He scored 51 goals in 49 games for the Black Stars. But just before AFCON 1963 on March 24 1963 his club the Ghana Real Republicans travelled to Kpando in the Volta Region to play the Volta Heroes/Mulpo. It was a nothing game. During that game Baba Yara's dribbling was extraordinary as he essentially, on one occasion, held onto the ball for ten minutes bribbling every one on the field including some of his own team-mates. The final score was 5--1 against the Volta Heroes. Some spectators were very angry at the excessive humiliation. On the the way back the Black Star driver at one point was asking the players whether they preffered to travel over the horrifying Kpeve mountains to Bame to Accra or use the other way that passed through Peki to Accra. Then the driver switched the road recklessly at the foot of the mountains and as fate would have it, the bus crushed into the valley. Baba Yara , sitting near the front had a spinal and lumbo-sacral injury. Beautiful Rosalyn was in tears beyond consolation. He was flown to England and brought home without any improvement. Then , from the land arose a religous man named Prophet Jehu who claimed that he could cure Baba Yara. After seven days he said " Baba Yara could move both arms". Unfortunately it got worse. The Ghana government bought him a wheel chair and built him a house in Madina where he lived until he died in 1969.

I know Edward Acquah scored at least 34 goals for the Black Stars.
The best amoung those goals were the 2 against Real Madrid on August 19, 1962. That was the game where the dribblers Baba Yara and Kwame Adarkwa pitched their skills against de Stefano and Ferenc Puskas who were the second best and best players in the world at that time prior to the blosoming of Pele. Acquah's 2 bullet shot goals put the final game of AFCON 1963 beyond the reach of the Sudanese. During the Nigerian independence day celebrations on October 09 1960 Acquah's 3 thunderbolt shots enabled Ghana to beat Nigeria 3--0 and brought tears down the eyes of Premier Tafawa Balewa, Namdi Azikiwe and Awolowo.
Also Acquah,s high angle thunderbolt goal enabled Ghana to obtain a draw against Argentina in the 1964 Olmpic games. When the Black Stars toured Europe in 1964 they played against the World IX. Black Stars lost 2-1. But it was Edward Acquah's shot which almost decapitated Lev Yashin ( World's greatest goalie ever) that was the headline.

Why the report omitted goals from CK Gyamfi and Baba Yara. The tally for Edward Acquah is obviously wrong. He was the goal-scorers goal-scorer. He and Bulldozer Mfum were players with high honour who never fake injury nor flop in the opponents penalty box seeking penalty shots.
The following goal-keepers had a first-hand experience concerning the hell-fire shots from Edward Acquah:
Olu Onangorowa,Rigogo, Fregene (Nigeria), David Momo (Liberia), Fanny Ibrahim , Karamokou ( Mali),Sabit Dodoo (Sudan), Santa Maria(Real Madrid), Joan ( Italy).......
It is possible that Edward Acquah's tally could be over 40 goals. Unfortunately he died in extreme poverty and illness. Oh what a cruel fate for a great son of of Ghana.
