Football is a business and in any business, if someone has great credentials but is not dedicated to the organization they will eventually bring the organization down. You are always better off with average people who will put in their all. Eventually, they will develop into a very strong unit. As we can see, this unit has demonstrated that ultimately, they can put more than one goal in. Moreover, the coach has realized that two strikers up top is helping Asamoah Gyan to be the scorer he should be.

... And the writer said his heart "bleeds profusely"? He might be a well-meaning person. But the practical truth of the matter is that in football, it's not all about discipline, desire or ambition to play for one's club or country. It is about using the BEST materials to get the RIGHT results. All other issues, including but not limited to disciplinary and remuneration concerns, could be handled by officials later. That is, 3 POINTS BEFORE POINTING FINGERS.
Ghanaians are too good at accusing folks.

Now we have all sorts of names in the Ghanaian nationality, so I cannot really say; but I doubt if the writer is Patriotic enough to "bleed profusely" like he says, when even the Government of Ghana so wisely considers a need to compromise or arrange for the return of players who felt they had a case worth standing up for. Anger does not take one anywhere, but I got so angry I did not read his article more than a third through.
If the writer (definitely NOT a true Ghanaian) were a footballer, or had contributed anything at all to Ghana, he would write such an article. It is in a very bad taste.
I am glad whatever their grievances are, will be looked into to teach a lesson to all concerned..

Are our leaders, the president, the ministers (MP's), DCE'S, Regional ministers, Assembly men/women patriotic? if you have any advice go and give it to them. There are footballers who gave their all to mother Ghana, ask Osei Kofi and co, most of them can't even afford a daily bread. You guys do not know what goes on behind the curtain so you talk by heart. Those people you mentioned, like Fabio, Maradona and co, do you know how well they were treated and taken care of, you cant just scratch the surface of the mud to know what is beneath. So you don't even have sympathy for someone like Essien who got injured playing for Ghana, and was off for more than a year, lost his position and had to be loaned to another club. Did Ghana feed him? did you pay for his medical bills? Were you even thinking about him? You people and Ghanaians are very wicked, you always only think of what you will get from someone even if the person is dying. You guys are rather unpatriotic. Vida,
I support your stand 100%. The GFA is rotten but because FIFA has rules on government interference in matters of soccer/football, Africa's FAs will always be rotten because they keep hiding behind FIFA to steal, select players that pay bribes and perform their business unprofessionally. Until all these problems are corrected, which won't because we live in a corrupt country, players will keep revolting. This is bad for Ghana but we also need to call the attention of the GFA who can't do anything for Ghana unless the government pays for it. The government knows the GFA pocket about 25-30% of the players' salaries, especially local players who can't speak for themselves for fear of being drop for the next assignment.
Anyone remember the allegations made about three months ago by retired players who were offered a place in 2006 World Cup if they could pay a certain amount of money? GFA is a one way business where all the workers invest no money yet reap a lot of profits by taking bribes and promising players the SKY for their careers.

Player management is not the same at the a club as at the national team. Situations are handled in a club more as a business than in a national team. Rememeber that during the Adedi, Yeboah era it was the same GFA who sowed seeds of disunity when they striped a captain without any tangible excuse. In terms of player management the GFA have some way to go in spite of the fact that the Nyantekyi led administration have made some strides. When players get injured, the support must be there. As far as the Ayes are concerned i am very much in agreement with the writer.

Yes, their inclusion could backfire the MRAA's discipline code.
But then, as custodians of the country, we must show maturity, must display a high sense of compassion in dealing with these talents.
We must make the attempt to bring them into the fold once we perceived they are lost and that it would not augur well for them in the coming years if they continue to be awol.
After we have exhausted all the avenues of mediation and reparation and we seems not to have succeeded, as they continue to be adamant, posterity would have registered this fact:
We did try, we tried, we have tried, y'ay3 nea yebetumi but as stubborn as they were, as they are, they have flatly disrespected the nation. We can at this juncture, call it a treason against the nation. Haaaa I laf.
In that case, the proverbial "3ny3 obi na ekum Antwi, obosiako na Ode ne tiri gyee akyer3ma" sets in.

The fact that the President of the nation has added his voice for their return beats my imagination, why? If these guys get back into the team, there would be pressure on the coach to field them even if they are not fit else if we loose a match without them, he could be fired! We've all played soccer before but I think this is becoming unbecoming! During the eras of the Adolf Armahs, Assase Js, Emmanuel Quarshies, Ebo Essien's (Zion Train), Kuuku Dadzies, Nketsiah Yawsons, Opoku Ntis, etc when even Abedi was a substitute, we never had these kind of things to the extent that, a whole President should come that low and "plead" for their return. U CAN'T DO THIS IN ANY COUNTRY SAVE GHANA!! Yet we have a lot of guys supporting them. The present team succeeded in Sudan with ten disciplined players and you want to "pollute" it with some "self-centered" attitudes? guys who don't care winning or loosing? Please for Heaven's sake, let's leave these guys alone and allow the team to continue a fully disciplined side. We don't have to compromise just b'cos we want to be in Brazil. This is my opinion, though. God bless mother Ghana!

The coach wants them back! Anyway, these guys are not UNPATRIOTIC! Not one bit!The unpatriotic people are those who are always misinforming the public about what is happening! A lot of writers have no idea about what they are writing! They are so emotionally charged that they shut the logical and decerning parts of their thoughts.(Some are even on personal VENDETTAS against some players they envy or hate) We must try to be fair when TRYING TO JUDGE OTHERS! The coaches and the GFA Chairman are in control of the situation and are taking the necessary steps to solve the problem! They know best what happened and those involved! Among the players themselves, there is no panic or problems as some people WISH IT SHOULD BE! SO IT TOOK YEARS FOR THESE PLAYERS TO BECOME UNPATRIOTIC?!?! WHO ARE MORE UNPATRIOTIC THAN THOSE WHO ALWAYS SOW THE SEED OF CONFUSION AND DISUNITY AMONG PLAYERS WITH THEIR HALF-TRUTHS AND BIASED AND MALICIOUS ARTICLES. silas tetteh had to robbed ransford osei of both the captain's band and number 10 jersey and gave them to dede who was not even part of the under 17 team that formed the nucleus of the under 20 team. that was why ransford osei was virtually demoralised. he was just 19 years old but he was pushed into the blackstars and not the under 20. he got called up into the blackstars and like adolf armah in 1982, the captain of the blackstars who also wears the number 10 jersey, stephen appiah mysteriously got injured. stephen appiah has since not find his bearing. unfortunately dede could not make it at the blackstars so he was brought down to the under 20 and with the help of silas tetteh the prospects of ransford osei was short-cicuited. now with dede challenges with the blackstars, dont you see a resurgent ransford osei. do you konw why captains and number 10 jersey wearers from adolf armah, opoku nti, kwesi appiah, stephen appiah, jhn mensah, kwadwo asamoah, anthony annan, sule muntari, asamoah djan have suffered one mischap or the other immediately some persons enter the blackstars?

I personally found it quite nauseating to be reading sports news about GFA begging these players times without numbers to return to national duty. Will Kevin-Prince Boateng now be able to combine club commitment and national calls if, indeed, he returns to the national team? Infact, what may be happening could well be described as "monkey dey work, baboon dey chop" for some of the players. Those players who cited Asamoah Gyan's brief time-out from the national team to buttress their argument have forgotten that they have not faced the kind of vilification the Ghanaian fans had subjected him to. I pray the Appiah who says he needs every single talented and good Ghanaian player on board will ensure that those who have sweated it through all these qualifying matches will not end up in "thrash can" of the team.

you have written well, and i agree with you on many scores.
however i have a few observations.
firstly, in my opinion bundling essien issue with the issues of kevin, dede & jordan might have been over stretched. essien got injured. he recovered and joined the blackstars but got injured again in angola when drogba applied a needless tackle. he returned but got injured again. i have not read anywhere that essien has given precondition for his return except that he has asked for time to recover fully. however, the other three seemed to be asking for conditions. kevin for instance is on record to have asked to be coming along with his own physioterapist, and he seemed not interested in playing in an afcon which he has been cleverly avoiding. jordan obviously is asking for a first team place and dede does not want to be substituted.
the glorious era of stars like Abedi Ayew Pele, Tony Yeboah, Yaw Preko, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Sam Johnson, Kwesi Appiah, Sammy Kufour and Tony Baffour.... what was glorious about this era? losing to germany 7:1, losing to brazil 8:2, kicked out by cote d'ivoire in the quarter finals of the 1994 afcon, qualified for the world cup?

I read a little piece of your article culd not read all but i summarise it to be a good piece.Well life is what it is nothing is perfect we have to get use to it.I agree some of them retired for selfish reasons but there are some who left bcos they felt left out by the coach. What the GFA should do from now on is to find out and solve any the problems existing between players and the coach, whatever it is in order to bring total brotherhood in the team.I disagree with you however that some players are unpatriotic,i sincely blieve that all the players in camp are all patriotic and willing to die for mother GHANA.The last thing we need right now is to start a blame game of who is bad or the baddest, yes some of the players made a wrong call,it is high time we forgive and move on,we need them to win the world cup, this is like the story of the PRODICAL SON or sons in this case.Ghana is too civilise to go backwards if a player is good and fit pls invite him,we all no that Ghana is bigger than any individual,go boys bring the world cup to Africa,GOD bless Ghana and the Beautiful Black Stars
