BEIGE Village organises junior golf competition

It is a fair assertion to make; that the growth of the game of Golf in Ghana revolves around Junior Golf. However, when you visit many of the Golf Courses in the country you are likely to see that most of the people playing are adults or seniors.

On 1st August 2011, BEIGE Village Golf Resort & Spa at New Abirem, initiated a Junior Golf Program at its Golf Academy, to reverse this trend where only adults gain from the immense benefits of the game.

In an interview during the initiation of the Junior Golf Program, the CEO of BEIGE Village, Mike Nyinaku explained that the Junior Golf Program is designed to achieve two key objectives: firstly, to provide the caddies with world class education that will make them responsible individuals. The second objective he said is to ignite in young people an interest in the game of golf and make Golf Professionals out of them.

To this very end and in an effort to measure the continuous growth of the Junior Golfers (mostly caddies at the BEIGE Village Golf Club) the management of the Resort organized its first of many Junior Golf Competitions to come.

At 23 years 3 months, Rory McIlroy became the youngest man to win the PGA Championship in 2012, younger than Tom Creavy in 1931, Jack Nicklaus in 1963 and Tiger Woods in 1999; younger in fact, than anyone in the stroke-play era. With a net worth value of more than $100 million, Rory has become a very young Professional that children look up to as a role model golfer. The question is; when would such a young Professional come from Ghana?

BEIGE Village has pledged to work with other Corporate Organizations to ensure that this Junior Golf Competition becomes National, Continental and even an International Program.

Management of the Resort called on Golfers from Newmont Ghana Ltd, during their Easter Golf Outing at the BEIGE Village Golf Club, to make the presentation of prizes. The best three (3) players of the day were James Arko (97 Gross Score), Emmanuel Amoh Obeng (101 Gross Socre), and David Appiadu (103 Gross Score).

The Junior Golf Program is a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility programs of BEIGE Village and it is being managed by The BEIGE Foundation, the charity arm of the BEIGE Group of Companies. Funding for the Foundation’s operations is sourced from the profits of members of the BEIGE Group of Companies and donations from benevolent individuals and corporate institutions.
