I agree with you. It is so disgraceful and misguided for any Ghanaian to wish failure unto any local club featuring at the continental level. These people don't know that any international achievement for both clubs and national teams cements Ghana's reputation as a football powerhouse. It makes all of us, even those of us who do not how to kick a ball, feel good. I think our education system is letting the country down.

At the Kumasi Stadium, who carried very gigantic banners that read "Kotoko, Welcome to Zamalek"? The "AGAINTS" scenario had been vice-versa and it appears very naïve and bewildered to throw tauntroms at fans in this situation, esp. in a soccer FREE WORLD as it were.

Mr.N, first of all remember this journalist can't stand at the Accra sports stadium and speak on behalf of the entire Phobia fans. There will always be some fans who'll do this and it's not a new thing. Some Fabu fans have done this to Phobia several times so let's just drop it.
However, I knew of this defeat long time ago when Kotoko qualified to play in this years Africa series and they started trading their top players. I complained bitterly and some Fabu fans told me "dzi wo fie as3m". When Kotoko beat Nguema by 7 - 0 and struggled to draw with Liberty professionals, I raised the issue again. Then when Faisal beat Fabu, I said it again. Soccer these days is serious business and anybody that get's involved should behave as such. How the hell should Ghanaian players be sold to a team in Congo? To learn gorrilla fighting or what? If a team like Mezembe can excell so much, why can't Hearts and Kotoko do better? The foolishness of some of our local club executives are beyond measure. You need money to make money. Let's up the salary of our good players, keep them and the end result will be more money for the club. The nonsense must stop.

This is a normal occurrence in soccer rivalry. In Egypt for instance, Zamalek fans will rejoice when El Ahly is defeated by any foreign club and vice versa.
It is important to note that this seemingly negative attitude has in no way the capacity to fix the result of the actual game. That is why even though the against fans were there alright when Kotoko played the E Guinea champions but Kotoko managed to win 7-0.
So let's not make a mole out of this. Kotoko supporters also do the same for Hearts.

Hearts and Kotoko rivalry has not been a healthy one for a long time. Personally, whenever our clubs go up against any foreign club, I switch to a nationality mode. However, not everybody does that and everybody who is associated with football in Ghana is aware of the fact that some fans just take the meaning of rivalry to a different level. So to put this under the microscope as if it was a new phenomenon only deepens the polarization between these clubs and their fans. This is shameful and unacceptable, especially considering what happened on may 9. Shame!
