Hand 2013 Africa Nations Cup title to Nigeria -Dutch football legend, Ruud Gullit
Written by Ganiyu Salmon - Lagos
Thursday, February 7, 2013
DUTCH football legend, Ruud Gullit, believes the Super Eagles are as good as winning the 2013 Africa Nations Cup following a spectacular performance on Wednesday when Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 in the first semi-final of Afcon 2013.
To him, the turning point for Nigeria was the win over the highly-rated Ivory Coast team which Nigeria beat 2-1 in the quarter final.
‘’I think the Nigerian football is the best on display. They have a strong and clever way to get the ball behind their opponents especially with Mikel dictating the direction where the passes go,’’ Gullit told Supersport.
He gave credit to Stephen Keshi’s tactical options.
‘’Against Ivory Coast, everybody thought the Eagles were coming to defend but they came for attacking play and it paid off. With that mindset, they came to hurt the Malians’’.

GET RID OF APPIAH!
MY FRIENDS. TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE DEVE;OPMENTALLY CHALLENGED.
LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY.
LETS JUST SAY U WANT HAVE HIRED AKAWASI APPIAH TO WORK FOR YOUR FAMILY BUSINESS. BEFORE U GIVE HIM FULL REIGNS OF THE BUSINESS, YOU
PUT HIM THRU SIME TRAINING PROGRAMS. HE ALLOW HIM TO SHADOW MILO, PLAVI AFTER ALL THESE YRS. FINALLY, U GIVE HIM THE CONFIDENCE TO TAKE OVER.
INSTEAD OF APPIAH BUILDING UPON THE MISTAKES OF HIS PREDECESSORS, HE MAKES THE SAME MISTAKES OVER AND OVER. INSTEAD OF IMPROVING, HE KEEPS REGRESSING.
WAT WILL YOU DO, BCOS EVIDENTLY APPIAH IS COSTING YOUR FAMILY BUSINESS SERIOUS MONEY.....
HWE, IM NOT A CERTIFIED COACH, BUT I CAN WIN AFCON WITH THE PLAYERS GH TOOK TO SOUTH AFRICA.
APPIAH HAS NO BRAINS AND HE CANT MANAGE ANYTHING!
I COULD HAVE COACHED THESE PLAYERS TO GOLD. APPAIH IS NOT INTELLIGENT. GH IS AMASSED WITH PLAYERS AND TALENT. WHAT WE LACK ARE INTELLIGENT
COACHES. THE LIKES WHO CANT EVEN BEAT YOU AT CHESS OR CHECKERS.
OUR PROBLEM WAS NOT THE PLAYERS, BUT THE COACH AND HIS FOOLISH BRAINS. TWEAAAA, APPIAH WO Y3 TOKE!
I HAVE SEEN ENOUGH OF HIM AND HIS STUPID ANTICS. HE IS NOT INTELLIGENT, AND HIS STUPID TACTICAL METHODS DONT YIELD RESULTS.
I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN HIM AS OUR COACH. GET RID OF HIM. LET HIM GO N COACH HEARTS OF OAK OR SOME CLUB SOMEWHERE.
MAXWELL KONADU IS THE BEST MAN TO COACH GH BLACK STARS. IF WE CANT GIVE THE JOB TO DESAILLY, THEN MAXWELL MUST TAKEOVER.
APPIAH IS NOT GOOD. I HAVE SEEN ALL I NEED TO SEE FROM HIM. APPIAH TO ME LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE WHO IS NOT IN CONTROL OF HIMSELF OR HIS DECISIONS.
LIKE HE RELIES ON A DIETY OR SOME OUTSIDE FORCE TO BAIL HIM OUT. NOT A BRILLIANT COACH. HE CAN GET A JOB COACHING A CLUB IN GH OR ELSEWHERE
IN AFRICA. IF HE SUCEEDS, HE CAN COME BACK. WE DONT NEED NO MORE DADA BA COACHES FOR GBSTARS. APPIAH HASNT PROVEN HE DESERVES TO
COACH GBSTARS. HE WAS GIVEN THE JOB ON A SILVER PLATTER. GIVE THE JOB TO DESAILLY OR MAXWELL KONADU. LOOK AT KESHIE? KESHIE HAS PAID HIS DUES.
AMODU WAS THE FIRST BLACK MAN TO QUALIFY AN AFRICAN TEAM TO A WORLD CUP. AS GOOD AS AMADU WAS, HAD HE NOT BEEN FORED. DO YOU THINK KESHIE WOULD HAVE
GOTTEN THE CHANCE HE NOW HAS? KESHIE HAS COACHED TOGO, MALI AND NOW NAIJA. HE HAS PAID HIS DUES. KONADU HAS SHOWN HE UNDERSTANDS HOW TO COACH.
AS FOR APPIAH, THE LEAST SAID THE BETTER. IN 2010 U WERE ON THE BENCH WITH MILO.
LAST YR U WERE ON THE BENCH WITH PLAVI ..SAME THING! THIS YEAR, SAME THING!
YOU THINK ANYTHING WILL CHANGE TOMORROW? TWEAAA! GET RID OF APPIAH!
6YRS AS COACHING APPRENTICE. WENT TO CHAN WITH MILO. WENT TO ANGOLA AFCON WITH MILO. WENT TO WCUP WITH MILO. WENT TO AFCON 2012 WITH PLAVI.
NOW THIS? WHEN WILL AA EVER LEARN? INSTEAD OF ELEVATING, HE KEEPS REGRESSING...NAIJA FIRED AMODU, CALLED SIASIA. AND NOW KESHIE...
IF NFA HAD SAID COACHING IS A LONGTERM BUILDING PROCESS, WHERE WOULD THE NAIJA TEAM BE TODAY? AA, WO Y3 TOKE!
OR ELSE GH WILL BOW OUT OF THE WCUP QUALIFIERS. TRUST ME!
IM SURE APPAIH WENT AND CONSULTED JUJU AND THOUGHT JUJU WOULD SAVE HIS BLACK ASS. WAT A FOOL. HE SHULD GO ASK MOURINHO, GUARDIOLA, FERGUSON
IF THEY HAVE JUJU...TYPICAL OLD FOOL SET IN HIS WAYS. HW3, IF WE ALLOW APPIAH TO CONTROL THE TEAM, WE WONT QUALIFY FOR WCUP. TRUST ME.
CAN U IMAGINE GH GOING TO BRASIL WITH THIS ALIGUNTUGUI STYLE OF PLAYING? JESUS CHRIST! IF DESAILLY CANT TAKE OVER, ALLOW MAXWELL KONADU.
MAX IS A SMART GUY. HE IS NOT SUPERSTITIOUS LIKE AKWASI APPIAH. APPIAH BELIEVES IN THINGS HE HIMSELF DOES NOT UNDERSTAND, SO HE WILL ALWAYS SUFFERS.
THIS IS WAT WE CALL SUPERSTITIION...LIKE JUJU! MALLAM CHOP YOUR MONEY FREE!
HW3, IF APPIAH ISNT FIRED AS FOR ME, I AM WASHING MY HANDS OFF GBSTAR
TWEEEAAAA.....APPIAH, WO Y3 TOKE!......

Kwesi Appiah should be sacked - ex-MP
Immediate-past Member of Parliament for the Adentan constituency, Kojo Adu Asare is calling for the head of Black Stars coach James Akwesi Appiah for failing to advance Ghana to the finals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations.
He questioned Akwesi Appiah’s decision to substitute Mubarak Wakaso; Ghana's best penalty taker at the dying minutes of the extra time when it was clear there would be penalty shoot-outs.
Adu-Asare said that decision prove that the coach and all the people on the technical bench were out of ideas.
He indicated that though he is in favour of a local coach, the ex-Ghana captain has proven not to be capable of grooming the team for the World Cup.
______________________
Is semis chokers our new name now?
Why are we always choking at the semis for the last 4 or five consecutive times?
Did Akwasi Nyantakyi, GFA boss, lied to us by promising to bring the 2013 Afcon cup home, after 31 years drought?
Should Akwasi Nyantakyi be made to proceed on indefinite leave to break the jinx strangle-hold on the team, ever since his tenure some umpteen years ago?
Do we need a complete overhaul at GFA?
What is the composition of the Ghanian technical bench? Who's in charge of their strategy, and are they asleep at the switch?
The Stars bane has to do with our lack of quality strikers. What scheme has Nyantakyi put in place to address this issue? Do you think a prize of 4 bedrooms house for a goal-king annually as a motivation, would produce better strikers? Don't forget, the beautiful game is all about goals.
Look at who we called up as a strong representation of higher conversion rate strikers for the Stars:
Asamoah Gyan
Albert Adomah
Emmanuel Clottey
Richmond Boakye
Why should Asamoah Gyan be made to play 90' when he can have maximum impact as a substitute, coming in the second half?
Do you think replacing Coach Akwasi Appiah with Bashiru Hayford for preparation of Brazil 2014 qualification, and the tournament is a good strategy?
Do the present crop of players seem to spend too much time on their hair cuts, dyes, styles than practicing penalty kicks? Smile.
Have these players justified their inclusion in the team: Dan Agyei, Derek Boateng, Awal Mohammed, etc or are they waste of space?
How do we salvage the little respect we have left, and avoid a second humiliation in consecutive times, fighting for the bronze prize or third place with Mali? Would these players do the trick on Saturday's game against Salifu (or is it Seydou) Keita and his crew from Mali?
1. Fatau Dauda
2. ?
3. Harrison Afful
4. Jon Boye
5. Vorsah
6. Wakaso Mubarak/Badu/Annan
7. Solomon Asante
8. Badu/Wakaso Mubarak
9. Richmond Boakye/Gyan
10. Kwadwo Asamoah
11. Atsu
What do you think about the selection?
Is the present coach adjustable/swift/nimble when it comes to reading games and making the necessary alterations, i.e. changing the pace, formations, monitoring and evaluating tired players, and injecting fresh but needed energy into the team with much more better players from the bench?
As some will jokingly put, I am going to "sharrap" and let the pitch write the rest of history between GH and Mali tomorrow.

Another problem with the team is lack of discipline and commitment. They are young players but some of them have over rated themselves as super players. The coach has not been able to instill in them real focus on playing football. They seem to spend too much time on hair cuts. Just look at the funny hair cuts and dyes, it makes them look like players without an objective, without focus. Some of them also indulge in showing off - too much dribbling and so on. Great players like Messi focus on improving their skills always, not on fanciful hair cuts and dyes. Assmoah Gyan left the Premier League in England to join a team in the Middle East . What is the standard of football in the Middle East? Top scorer in the Middle East is no achievement? Asamoah Gyan's standard has fallen since he left the premiership and he should be dropped from the Black Stars completely . Coach Appiah should be sent overseas to improve his skills if he has to remain the national coach. He should change his management style and demand discipline and harder work from all players than he has so far done.

Appiah lacks the qualities of a good coach. His decisions prior to the tournament were terrible.
For instance, he showed strength and power against Andre Ayew by dropping him in a shocking manner in the name of a so-called disciplinary standard. Appiah lacks wisdom and discipline himself. He even lacks charisma.
Thank him handsomely and let him go now else more embarrassing and more painful disastrous outcome/results await the Black Stars in the near future.

I have said it elsewhere and I say again that, Ghana hired Appiah not because we thought he is a Grade-A coach. We all new that his coaching knowhow is below Grade-C by all standards. He is pretty much a coach trainee, learning on the job. We as a nation will not accomplish anything by firing him at this time. We should see the experiment we have started through, and hope that he is a fast learner and can emulate the achievements of Coach C K Gyamfi down the road.
If we drop him now it is going to take about one or two decades to find a competent Ghanaian coach. If we want a Ghanaian coach for our national team, we must groom one by ourselves, nobody will do that for us. Neither will we find it if we sack every coach who fails in the first couple of years. Appiah needs time to improve. My only concern is that he should not bring politics into player selection, plus he should learn to deal with the egos of his players. Pressing the discipline button over every minor issue we not help.

Remember he was trained as a coach in in Germany. Before then, he played great soccer at the club level and at the international level. He participated in legendary FA cup matches. In particular CK played alongside and against soccer stars with a variety of skills : Baba Yara(King of Wingers and Wizard of the Dribble, Aggrey Fynn (Master Schemer), James Adjei (Super Dribbler), Dogo Moro (Master Stopper), Mfum (Bulldozing Forward), Mohammed Salisu (Dribbling Left Winger and Goal scorer),Kwame Adarkwa (Fleetfooted Superb Dribbler), Dodoo Ankrah, Addoquaye Laryea (Excellent Goalkeepers. Gyamfi has been with and seen the cream of players in every key position in the game. That was the reason, together with his soccer acumen, agility of thought, his unquenching desire for victory, why Ohene Gyan and Kwame Nkrumah sent him outside to Germany to be trained as a coach. He was such a good material to be trained for a coaching position. Appiah's antics, lack of strategy, muddled substitutions in the Burkina Faso game disqualifies him as a coach. Gyamfi was a good non-abrasive disciplinarian. He reprimanded Baba Yara for leaving camp for Lagostown to accept the award for "King of Wingers" before Jalco Cup Forever game. He was bold to dissolve the 1963 AFCON winning team and forming another winning team for Tunisia in 1965. The only former players who can be trained to emulate CK are Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Opoku Nti and Dessailly. Right now they should for a presidium of former stars to come to impact their skills to the Black Stars. The Black Stars are shamefully inferior in the areas of ball control, one-on-one dribbling, good passing, penalty shots, goal scoring when face-to-face with goalkeepers, thunderbolt shot remiscent of Acquah and Mfum, killer and patrotic instinct, and how to read a game in progress. What do you say my friends.

Nothing man has ever invented receives so much attention, is so widely sought, and generates so much controversy as this small item: It is a piece of paper that measures 2X6 with a thickness of round about .0043 inches. It takes about 490 pieces of them to weigh a pound. It is both used and abused, worshiped and haggled over.
Some says it liberates men, others say it enslaves them.
People sometimes become emotional over it, especially when there is too little of it.
Sooner or later, it manages to become the focal point of all activity.
What is it? Can you guess?
It's the dollar bill.(culled)
To wit, MRAA, by being made the coach of the GBS has garnered much attention
and confusion. His life at fifty- something have had many doubts entertained at this point of his career.
Don't we know that every one of us have had to face such hardships,OOPS! obstacles,! impediments and disappointments in every field of endeavour, most especially in the handling of these "millionaire rascals" of footballers who tho, are having fun makes a heck of ostentatious living.
WE had better give MRAA the chance to
make a descent career out of coaching the twinkle-twinkle little stars.

Is the Team, Black Stars, having physical trainer? The 'Bukinabas' were very fast and strong. The team actually out-played the Black Stars and therefore deserved to win the game.

Apart from the fact that AA has done his bit, the process that was used in hiring him was flawed from the beginning. At the time Ghana needed to replace Plavi, AA was made interim and then hired thereafter. That was where the ERRORS began. If AA had competed with other LOCAL COACHES home and abroad, and won the position, then confidence would have been invested in him, then he would have been considered the best amongst the applicants. Then we have to tolerate his errors. That was not the case. It is not too LATE. The CURRENT situation can be remedied immediately. Ghana has to REDO what it should have done in the first place. A neutral COMMISSION should investigate the hiring process and initiate a system that would allow AA to compete through RESUMES with other Ghanaian coaches home and abroad. Selas Tetteh, Konadu and several others, should all compete. In the end if AA wins through his achievements, GREAT. I have been on several hiring committees so I know what I am talking about.

I will suggest he is given the role to scout for players for all the national teams from under 16 to under 23.The coaching post should be given to Maxwell Konadu and one other ex-professional local coach.I know many people will disagree with me BUT that is the truth. At Church,we have prophets, evangelists, teachers....A teacher cannot do the work of an evangelist to perfection and a prophet cannot be a pastor UNLESS Hhe or she has the anointing.Kwasi Appiah as I can see him should belong to the technical team responsible for scouting players for all levels. He should not and cannot be a coach because he does not have that annointing.Maxwell Konadu is a coach. He has a track record. He can move Ghana for laurels.I tell you the black stars players were eager to win BUT there was no proper strategy for them on the ground to pursue their dream.Maxwell has been with the team for a while,he knows almost all of them.He is a humble man just like Kwasi,he is able to interact with the players well also. What else do we need?Akwasi has done his best BUT I think he must be re-assigned for other duties in the team than being national coach.Secondly the technical bench must also have some old players.Where is Tony Yeboah? Frimpong Manso? ..... My goodness! Did you see Kanu and the group on the stands? What do you think they were doing there?Come on guys!! It is even possible to lose the 3rd position since mali is not an easy team. Ghana was less competitive, physically and in style. It happens and even Alex Fergusson and the special One accepts such situations. Keep the coach, bring in the fickle minded professionals who are good but turning their backs on the country encourage patriotism and find antidotes to the ever improving soccer nations of Africa, to win the Cup once more.

compare this to GH b/stars. apart from Niger game that i think went ok, the rest of the games were dismal..we needed help from referees to progress...besides if i give kwesi the benefit of doubt, how do you explain the last few minute decision to substitute wakaso - the person who has been taken your panalties until then...this is madness and incompetent written all over - am not saying wakaso could have save ghana...but could have helped with some confidence...i understand giving people time...but if you display incompetent you need more than just time...he has been around just about a yr now...the stars should have disply some sort of improvement in thier performance...not neccsariry winning the cup.

Yeah, every Ghanaian is a coach. As soon as the national team lose a match, then the coach's head should be sacrificed to the "gods" of the land.
We should all understand that football or soccer, as its stands, is a world wide sport and the number one sport on the African continent. The days when Ghana can trounce nation with seven or whatever numbers of goals, are over. Going into a competition to meet other teams, should ring a bell into our ears that those coming are as good like us and there is no way for us to rely on our past glory.
Cape Verde should have sent us packing in the quarter finals but thanks to the good and brave performance of Fatau. When we met Burkina Faso, we were out played and they deserve to win. Those calling the head of the coach are naive in the sense that the players, who are seasonal professional, should have known better that they are playing a team that is equally better like them else, they wouldn't be in the semi-finals.
Our players are self centered. They do not play with passion and that is their down fall. The Burkinabe players came in to win and after the debatable penalty was awarded against them, they did not look back. They fought relentless till they equalized and won on penalties.
Leave the coach alone.

In my opinion, the Coach is the best of the last four coaches Ghana has had. The job is so politicized that I find it amazing he is even able to field a team without sensless criticism from "know it alls". Leave him alone.
The coach has shown that he lacks what it takes to be a coach. So it is not a matter of giving him more time to access him or give him time to grow the team.
