Slow transfer window for Ghana players

The summer transfer window is just about gathering steam and it seems for many Ghanaian players that is the situation too.

Despite a lot of talk about potential many potential moves, few have happened which leaves us with plenty to look forward to when it gets to the business end of the window in the hectic days of August.

There are some pretty straight forward ones to look forward to, some not so straight forward and as is often the case with transfers the surprise deals.

Consider the transfer of Derek Boateng to Dnipro in Ukraine. He has been a regular in his two seasons there and looked to have settled in really well in Madrid where he played for Getafe.

But money talks and when €5.5m is on the table, Getafe simply sold a player they bought for €1m.

The next potential transfer which we are told involved Ransford Osei going to Hungary will not be a move that speaks of enhanced value. It will represent a downward one. Osei has been a real star for Ghana at international youth level.

He was top scorer at the 2009 Africa Youth Championships and scored four goals at the world cup too. But he has struggled in Israel, in Holland and in the Second Division of Spain with Granada. There is something about the hopping from one country to another that is so familiar with a fall from potential grace. Hopefully for the sake of Ghana football, Hungary will make the beginning of a rise for him.

Osei's strike partner a youth level Dominic Adiyiah is another one who could be looking for a new home. He has spoken about wanting t break in at AC Milan this season. We all know that having not played a single competitive game since signing for them in 2009, there is very little chance of him playing this season. plus Reginna on loan and Partizan Belgrade in that order suggest he will be farmed out elsewhere again.

Michael Essien is one of those players to have turned youth promise into manly success. Yet even he these days must be sleeping uneasy. If you read the press a lot he is not much in Chelsea's plans next season so much so that they are looking to use him and cash to get Luka Modric from Tottenham. When did our boy become so much of a lightweight?

Other versions say both Real Madrid and AC Milan want him. He insist he wants to stay at Chelsea and while you get a sense that is what he really wants, he could turn out to be the big Ghanaian transfer story of the summer.

We know for a fact that John Paintsil will be playing for a new club. There are many offers but as many gather for pre-season we don't know where he will be packing his bags to next.

John Mensah also has some interesting days ahead. He has completed a second loan spell at Sunderland and this time they have told him no more deals. But a player of his quality will have many options and ones that pays a healthy wage too.

Apparently Galatasaray want to take Sulley Muntari to Turkey according to quotations attributed to his agent Fabian Piveteau. Muntari insist he is going nowhere and that he is returning to Milan to begin pre season and see how it goes. 'See how it goes' could mean if I don't get to play, I will look elsewhere.

Transfer period comes with man stories, many suggestions. My favourite are the ones that claims interest when very little exist. It's a specialty of agents. They tout a client around, and drop the hint of how club A or B want their player.

There will be many of that in the next few weeks concerning Ghanaian players. It should be an interesting window.
