Ghanaian footballer Inaki Williams has etched his name into the history books at Athletic Bilbao after playing several matches to become the club’s fifth most-capped player.

The attacker reached the milestone in remarkable fashion, scoring to salvage a draw against Elche in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The game marked Williams’ 515th appearance in the Spanish top-flight, cementing his legacy with the club as captain.

He surpassed Joseba Etxeberria, who had made 514 appearances for the club during his career, and now occupies fifth place on the all-time list.

Athletic Bilbao officially congratulated Williams for the remarkable feat and expressed appreciation for his longstanding service, having spent almost his entire career with the club.

“Iñaki Williams enters the TOP-5 of matches with Athletic Club, 515 official games as a lion. And the remaining ones. Congratulations, Williams,” the club wrote on social media.

The other players ahead of him on the list are Txetxu Rojo with 541 appearances, Iker Muniain with 560, Óscar de Marcos with 573, and legendary goalkeeper José Ángel Iribar, who leads with 614 matches for the Rojiblancos.

Meanwhile, Williams recently announced his retirement from the Black Stars ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, having scored two goals in 28 appearances for Ghana.
