This would be a taboo if they were living in Ghana. After dating a lady for just a year you're pressured by family to marry her without regard to the fact that both the man and the woman may not be psychologically and financially ready for that journey. It is even worse when there's a child involved. Some succumb to this pressure, get married, and within a year or two, the marriage is replete with never-ending issues, culminating in divorce.
Marriage is a lifelong journey and people must be ready before joining that society-engineered institution.
