The National Sports Authority (NSA) has called on investors and corporate institutions to explore opportunities in Ghana’s sports infrastructure as part of efforts to transform the country’s sporting facilities.

NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says Ghana can adopt some of the successful financing and commercialisation models used in the United States to develop world-class sports facilities.

Speaking in an interview with Sports Check on GhanaWebTV, Ampofo Ankrah disclosed that a delegation from the NSA travelled to the United States during the 2026 FIFA World Cup to study how major sporting facilities are managed, financed and utilised.

He explained that the delegation, which included regional directors and heads of key departments, not only attended matches but also engaged stadium and facility managers on areas including security, marketing, branding, administration and the multi-purpose use of large sporting venues.

According to him, the experience provided valuable lessons on how Ghana could attract private-sector investment into sports infrastructure.

He cited the Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia as an example of the scale of investment that can be mobilised to develop major sporting facilities.

Ampofo Ankrah believes Ghana can develop similar financing models by bringing together financial institutions, energy companies, telecommunications firms and other major corporate players to fund specific sports infrastructure projects.

He proposed a model where companies that invest in such projects could receive naming rights and other commercial benefits beyond traditional sponsorship.

“Can we come together, talk to the Ghana Sports Fund, find these financial institutions, energy companies, telcos and identify that, look, we need to raise X amount over a period of time. It's going to go into this project, that project, that project. And we will name it after you,” he said.

He noted that investors could also enjoy wider commercial opportunities and benefits from their involvement in the development and management of sporting facilities.

The NSA boss said the delegation’s findings will be compiled into a report containing recommendations for improving Ghana’s sports infrastructure and presented to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and other key stakeholders.

He further indicated that the Ghana Olympic Committee and major corporate institutions will also be engaged as the Authority seeks to translate the lessons from the United States into practical initiatives in Ghana.
