Legendary Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien has urged Caleb Yirenkyi to remain diligent and disciplined after completing a move to Premier League side Coventry City.

The Championship club has not disclosed the transfer fee, but the deal is understood to be worth around £30 million, a record fee for FC Nordsjaelland.

The former footballer, who now works as an assistant coach with the Danish Superliga club, noted that he was impressed with the midfielder’s attitude towards his career and expressed hope that he succeeds in his new endeavor.

Essien encouraged the youngster to maintain his strong work ethic and wished him the best of luck as he begins a new chapter in his career.

“Your hard work, dedication, attitude, and willingness to learn will continue to push you to greater heights. Stay humble, disciplined, respectful, and keep working hard. Wishing you all the best,” he wrote on Facebook, attaching a football and love emoji to the message.

The 20-year-old came through Ghana's Right to Dream Academy before moving to Denmark in 2024. He made his senior debut for Nordsjaelland at 18 and quickly established himself as one of the country’s most exciting young talents.

Yirenkyi enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, helping Nordsjaelland finish third in the Danish Superliga and secure UEFA Conference League qualification. His performances also earned him the league’s Young Player of the Year award and a place in the Team of the Year.
