The defensive midfielder, who was substituted into the game, committed several fouls in an attempt to disrupt Spain’s rhythm and prevent them from holding possession for long periods.

He was booked by referee Slavko Vinčić for a cynical challenge but escaped a red card despite continuing his aggressive play after being cautioned.

Ferran Torres’ extra-time goal sealed victory for La Roja, easing past the Albiceleste in what was a tense and feisty encounter, leaving Paredes and Argentina defeated.

After the final whistle, Paredes was seen in an altercation with Eric García, repeatedly pushing the Barcelona defender, who remained calm and did not retaliate.

During the confrontation, Gavi intervened to defend his teammate, but Paredes unleashed his anger on the young Spaniard.

Paredes immediately shoved and punched Gavi, who fell to the ground. It took the intervention of Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni, match officials, and players from both sides to separate them and calm tensions.

Referee Slavko Vinčić eventually showed Paredes a red card for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the chaotic aftermath.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee is expected to review the incident to determine the punishment Paredes will face, as his actions breached the code of conduct and tarnished the image of the sport.
