Former Black Stars midfielder, Ahmed Barusso has described Ghana's opening 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Panama as a crucial encounter that could determine the team's chances of progressing beyond the group stage.
Speaking to Citi Sports, the former Ghana international stressed the importance of securing all three points when the Black Stars take on Panama on June 17 in their first Group L fixture.
Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, has been drawn alongside England, Croatia and Panama in a challenging group.
Despite Panama being viewed by many as the underdog in the group, Barusso cautioned against underestimating the Central American side, insisting the Black Stars must approach the game with full concentration.

"It won't be an easy task. We should try and take our chances and deliver as early as possible because it's the first game and I think we should get the three points," Barusso said.
The former midfielder believes anything less than a victory could leave Ghana facing an uphill battle in its quest to qualify for the knockout stage.
"It's a must. If we don't get the three points, then our chances of qualifying will be very difficult," he added.
