As anticipation builds toward the FIFA World Cup, organisers of Ghana’s participation in Germany’s renowned Berlin Carnival of Cultures say this year’s celebration will be dedicated to supporting the Ghana national football team.

According to Fatimah Adamu Suka, organiser of Ghana Carnival Berlin, the initiative is intended to rally support for the national team and remind the players that Ghanaians across the world stand firmly behind them.

“We want the Black Stars to feel the support of Ghanaians everywhere. This year’s presentation is dedicated to the team as they prepare for the World Cup. We believe culture and national identity go hand in hand, and this is our way of showing solidarity and boosting morale,” she said.

This year’s edition of Ghana’s participation in the Berlin Carnival of Cultures has therefore been themed around the spirit, resilience, and unity associated with the Black Stars, with organisers planning a strong display of Ghanaian music, dance, colours, and national pride throughout the event.

The Berlin Carnival of Cultures, popularly known as Karneval der Kulturen, is Germany’s largest multicultural street festival and attracts between 1.5 and 2 million attendees annually. The festival brings together countries and communities from across the world to celebrate diversity through performances, parades, and cultural exhibitions.

For more than two decades, Ghana has remained one of the standout attractions at the festival, consistently drawing massive crowds with vibrant performances and award-winning presentations. Ghana’s participation has over the years become an important platform for showcasing the country’s culture, tourism, music, fashion, and creative arts to international audiences.

Organisers say this year’s World Cup-inspired presentation will feature specially curated performances and visual elements designed to reflect the energy and passion surrounding Ghana football, while also celebrating the broader Ghanaian identity.

Fatimah Adamu Suka further noted that beyond entertainment, the initiative is also about uniting the Ghanaian diaspora community in Europe around a common national cause.

“Football has always united Ghanaians, no matter where we are in the world. We want to channel that same energy and patriotism into this year’s celebration,” she added.

The Ghana contingent is expected to participate in the grand street parade on May 24 in Berlin, with activities stretching from Frankfurter Allee to Proskauer Strasse as thousands gather to celebrate culture, diversity, and international unity.

The Ghana national football team will face Mexico national football team on May 22 before taking on Wales national football team on June 2 in preparatory matches ahead of the tournament.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team as the Black Stars chase a first FIFA World Cup knockout qualification since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
